kieran Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Hi all, I am looking for ideas on how to build some brick built doors that can live in the middle of a carriage, not at the ends like they do in the HE and EN. I am working on a new grey version of 10020 and want some carriages to go with it. Quote
Spitfire2865 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I dont have any ideas for this, but most coaches dont have doors in the middle. Especially not the Super Chief. What kind of coaches are you trying to build? Quote
Heppeng Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Here is my solution: Only trouble is that due to the geometry of the hinges the doors catch on each other straining the connections, requiring a little force to open, despite them seeming to work OK on LDD! Quote

dr_spock Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 You could try a swing out door design. Quote
kieran Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Thanks guys, Looking at this type of thing http://brickset.com/sets/10025-1 Quote

ecmo47 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Here is my solution: Only trouble is that due to the geometry of the hinges the doors catch on each other straining the connections, requiring a little force to open, despite them seeming to work OK on LDD! I designed some EN baggage cars that have that design. They look nice but are difficult to open. Quote
davidzq Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 For flush, gap-less brick built doors, the best method is a mechanism that slides out, and then swings. I've used this technique in various forms on pretty much everything I've built. A good example of this can be found here: Quote

kieran Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Thanks all some really nice ideas, I think the hinge plates may be the way to go, even if they don't then open all that well. Quote
