Richard Dower Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 We've had the same BORING Black and LBG axles for many years now, and alot of times the colour dosen't match the set they are used in or certain parts of the build should require use of a different colour then the bog standard axles TLG have been producing. Back in the day TLG did do some sets with Red axles, some even in Tan White and Brown....recently i have been thinking about building 8649 in Red but alas Red axles in the nesscary lengths alude me :-( Do you think there should be more colour variation in axles? Eigenbroetler Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I have e bunch of axles in other colors, green white and red, almost never use them. Quote
jantjeuh Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 What would you use those odd-coloured axles for? I actually prefer them all being black, but I understand that TLG introduced new colours (tan, DBG and red) to make building easier. Quote

In the case of 8649 it uses 1x12 and 1x4 Red axles on the spolier wing, its about how a model looks...colour co-ordination etc. Quote
jantjeuh Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Ah, alright. Yeah, TLG has produced some red (and white) axles in the past, but now I guess they're just not worth the investment. Quote

The molds exist....it would just be changing up the colour mixture...couldn't be that expensive? Quote
JGW3000 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I'd rather have axle/pin connectors in any color other than bright blue. Lately I have been using these as they are a less intrusive old grey color . ,but only in connections that don't need the friction ridges - connections that are not going to rotate anyways. Quote

Agreed....i think 42030 would have looked better using the old Black #6558 3L pins. Quote
5imon Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I have collected parts in odd colours for quite a time, but rarely use them. But in my current MOC (TC6 Citroën Activa) I have found quite a good use for the red and white axles, as I colour coded the different functions: red axles and connectors for the drivetrain, white parts for steering (as well as yellow for the suspension, but not the axles, obviously). I also use the coloured axles for bodywork from time to time if the right lengths are available. What I really love and use a lot are black axle pins with friction. The blue ones are just too ugly in most models. Too bad they are really rare and expensive. Quote
gti180 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 coloured axles could then have more use... a green roll cage for example Quote
Moz Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I'd rather have axle/pin connectors in any color other than bright blue. Lately I have been using these as they are a less intrusive old grey color . . This! I have a small collection of odd coloured axles but mostly use them when making instructional segments (for displays I often have parts of the model rebuilt and displayed separately to show how mechanisms work). I buy the 3 long pin friction whenever a BL selling I'm buying off has them, so I'm slowly building a pile of those without paying too much. But I also paid ~0.20E each for about 20 of those axle-pin joiner parts in black, and I'd love Lego to produce those again, only more of them. If I could buy 1000 at 0.10E each or less I'd be very happy. There are hardly any available and they're ridiculously expensive. So it's not really possible to make a display model with all the joiners in black, no matter how much I'd prefer that. Quote
Erik Leppen Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I have e bunch of axles in other colors, green white and red, almost never use them. Same here. There are enough parts in the various colors to cover the axles (e.g. the pin joiner) so I don't think other-coloured axles are needed. And they add production cost and confusion. I like it as it is, really. I'd rather have differently coloured bushes :) Those are often more "visible". Quote
jantjeuh Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) I'd rather have differently coloured bushes :) Those are often more "visible". Those already exist in black, blue, red, LBG, LG, orange, white and yellow Orange is very rare though, only have 10 of those. Edited February 7, 2015 by jantjeuh Quote
D3K Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I would rather see they spend resources on other things.. They have an OK system now, with LBG and black, and axles are mostly used inside the models anyway. For those times when you need to use axles for decorative purposes, black and LBG are fairly neutral in a lot of cases and as susch won't stand out. Or one could cover the axles with coloured pin connectors, bushes or ribbed hoses, or use flex axles instead Quote
