tedbeard Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Sosumi Japanese Restaurant is based on an actual building in my home town. The restaurant fills the first (ground) floor and a martial arts studio (no name yet, just "the dojo") occupies the space above. Notes: The custom engraved bricks are from Tommy and there is some BrickForge glassware and cleaver, but otherwise everything is pure LEGO (I think), even the stickers used on the doors. The two parking stalls are designed to be accessed by using a T-junction baseplate creating a larger "interior" corner layout. To be accurate to the real-life inspiration I will eventually have to build a submarine sandwich shop to fill in the other side of the corner. I use a modified MHS that uses studded sidewalks, two plates thick. When placed beside regular MHS buildings I use 10"x10" foamcore boards to raise the height to match my sidewalks. Kristel Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Nice! My favourite details are the tiling pattern in the restaurant, the bench in the studio and the old-fashioned desk. The parking bays are a nice touch, too. Quote
Only Sinner Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 This was so cool to see, the building looks great! So sue me. Quote
King Andy Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Really cool japanese restaurant, I like the interior and the custom stickers. Quote
tedbeard Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) Thanks all. I do have a problem when displaying my MOCs at public events: I love doing interiors. Unless I stand there lifting the sections out for people to see (a reason I love the modular style) people only see half the MOC. Edit: and yes, I have a weakness for bad puns. 3BrickFriends Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Nice Japanese restaurant. Its funny because my Japanese restaurant was going to have a martial arts studio above it.... then I got distracted and never finished it! Love the simplicity of the outside and with the car parking spaces it look perfect for a local restaurant. . Quote
tedbeard Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks 3BrickFriends. Its funny because my Japanese restaurant was going to have a martial arts studio above it.... Kind of a cliche isn't it? And the real place I based it on does have a martial arts studio above. Wasn't even my idea! Quote

Lady K Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Very nice! I like the both exterior and interior. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I really like this restaurant and the combination with the dojo! This could be one of my next project! Quote
Skalldyr Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I think the parking space is a very clever design. I also think it would be interesting to connect it with the Modular Buildings and use it in as a corner building! Very well Quote
danth Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Perfect setting for an 80's action/comedy anime. Quote
