jabz10 Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Hi I have been slowly acquiring parts via Bricklink to build an extra Emerald night carriage. All I have left to get are the 10 x 6556 Tan window 1 x 4 x 3 and window inserts. I came across these similar ones 60594 Tan window 1 x 4 3 no shutter tabs and the Glass window for 1 x 4 x 3 opening. Would this work, has anyone used these? Besides the small asthetic of no shutter window line it looks identical? They are a heck of a lot cheaper, just don't want to get them if they aren't the same physically, i.e. prevent building of the rest of the carriage due to size or something. Quote
dr_spock Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 They would fit in the 1x4x3 space that the tan train windows would take up. You won't have the rounded corners of the windows. I believe someone has used them in place of the tan train windows on this forum. Quote

paul_delahaye Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) Yes, they cost me a fortune when I built my extra 3 carriages, not quite as much as I ended up spending on blue 3x2 train windows, but nearly as bad. Annoying as LEGO customer services were selling them really cheap at one point, but some enterprising Bricklinkers kindly purchased all the inventory from LEGO so they could make a nice profit. I'm just sitting here hoping LEGO don't bring out a train anytime soon with Tan 4 x 3 windows or Blue 2 x 3 windows, otherwise I've spent all that money for nothing! Heppeng Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 One other thing you can do is space out the 60594 windows to help stop the coach looking a little like a greenhouse - you could put a stack of three tan 1x1 or 1x2 bricks between them. If you do this you could even have the windows in reddish brown to start getting a Pullman style look. Or if you want to go the whole hog you can do as I did and sell the EN coach for a tidy sum and with the proceeds build some proper Pullmans (although now that Enlighten seemed to have stopped producing the trains the printed windows came from you might find them difficult to get hold of) http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=102907 Another alternative which I have seen used, is a pair of 1x2x2 trans-clear panels, topped with a 1x4 plate (either tan, reddish brown or black according to taste) with the remaining space filled with 1x1 trans clear plates to give an approximation of the Pullman style window. It has the downside of course that you have brick joins where you don't want them. You will also need to put 1x1 or 1x2 bricks between to seperate them. Quote
