Dear Fellow Collectors

I have been bitten by the Lego bug and are looking for some general advice in regards to the following. I am after a few sets but I would like to know the general availability of these in regards to when they could be discontinued.

I am after the following:

Slave 1

Deathstar

Simpsons House

Orthanc

Maersk Triple E

All of these are still available as far as I can see. Due to the cost of the sets it will take a while for me to grab them all. What is the general lifespan for a lego set? Is it years before it gets discontinued? I guess I want to grab what could be discontinued or sold out before the others. For example how long will the Deathstar still be around?

Advise appreciated.

Many thanks,

G

Orthanc will most likely retire first seeing as it's two year anniversary is in July. Two years is the typical life cycle of exclusives. The middle earth license is also likely to expire this year, but when is not known. Next would be the Maersk, released Jan 2014, followed by Simpsons Feb. 2014. As slave 1 was just released this month you have plenty of time.

As for the Death Star, you might have a better chance picking a winning lottery ticket than guessing when it will retire. It's been out since 2008 and no end is in sight. Every year since 2010 every time a big Star Wars exclusive comes out people predict it will replace the Death Star. But I wouldn't wait too long, with TFA coming soon they may finally decide to say farewell.

Many thanks for the response Darth Punk. This is helpful. It seems I do have time to pick up my list if all goes well. I was curious about the Deathstar as it has been out longer than I knew. I found stock at a local shop and was wondering if I should get that first and sort the others out later.

Decisions, decisions...
