I think everyone in the community really needs to stick together and if that means we need to agree on making flickr.com our new home then fine. Hopefully flickr could accommodate us in a special way (after most of us have made the transition and can prove our significance) since there is no doubt in my mind we are going to draw a significant amount traffic to the website (as long as we stick together).

Together we stand because the 'dark-ages' of our past sucked ;)

Re-group here for now - http://flickr.com/groups/lego/

While I personally don

Well to be honest I really dislike flickr. It's much slower than BS was, it's infinitely more difficult to browse, and with that low limit of 200 pics that can be seen at any one time...it doesn't seem that useful. It's mainly useful IMO for highlighting the main shot of a MOC for people to comment on.

You could be right, but sticking together is more important than anything else at this moment in time.

I view the collapse of brickshelf similar to to how the original Napster kept most all (illegal) music downloading in a centralized place before the music industry stopped it and everyone got scattered into different P2P's around the world. I'm not here to support illegal downloading since Im personally against it, but the music industry had a chance to find a good compromise while everyone was in one spot and they blew it (itunes is the music industries 2nd chance IMO).

When you have a central site where most everyone in a particular interest group (ie LEGO) goes, it's important to do everything we can to stay united at one location (at least until the mega-shock of brickshelfs death resides).

Everyones comments are always greatly appreciated (regardless if we agree or not)!!!

MOCpages is far superior to flickr... flickr is much too slow and too hard to navigate. also, and this is very important: flickr is a site for that is not LEGO specific. for a true AFOL communion to work, we truly need an all-LEGO site, where we can just browse LEGO related stuff, and feel like we are a part of something LEGO oriented. it seems to me, that it makes no sense to use flickr, yahoo pics, etc.. we need all LEGO, all the time ;-)

however, i do agree with you, we need to unite under one roof, but so far it seems we are divided.

dang.

just to reiterate, im calling for a rally to MOCpages - BM

If this means that many of us need to support both mocpages and flickr right now then that's what we might have to do. While I prefer to stay within one website, but considering that some are already set up on mocpages and others are set up at flickr means we obviouly are going to have some division.

While I still prefer flickr.com, as a symbol of solidarity I just set up an account @ www.mocpages.com a few minutes ago and uploaded a few pics.

While this scenerio is far from perfect, it could be worse. Lets keep it within these two unique websites for now.

I dunno, man.

Maj is like... Brickshelf.

Except you can upload ANY other pics as well without them being deleted.

...God damn it. I'd love a statement from Kevin... describing to us his intentions for Maj's future and why he won't eventually kill this site.

Thats so difficult to create an site for upload our lego images(i dont want to create one :-P ).If a person or a group of person here are able of it why do you dont make them?

That's my fear. I'm worried it will be shutdown as well.

At least we know that flickr will be around longer then any other photo-sharing websites right now.

Well, it really is looking like the community is going to splinter. Personally, I hate Flickr. Its slow, not LEGO specific, and difficult to navigate (made even more annoying by the fact its so slow). I'm actually not keen on MOCpages either, but Sean has said he's going to revamp the comment system, so we'll see. Right now, between the opportunists who are starting new sites and the advocates who are defending existing alternatives, I'm becoming very weary of the whole ordeal.

Also, if too many AFOLs migrate to Maj, you have to wonder if it will suffer the same fate as BS.

Another benefit of flickr is that it will make it easier to help migrate new LEGO fans over since many would already be using flickr and maybe help bring them out of their 'dark-ages'. Most people don't like to have to join multiple photosharing sites for family photos and another one for LEGO and flickr is the best choice right now IMO.

some people have already made mocshows. com (I thought that was the name). It look not bad and it has the ambition to be the new brickshelf. :-)
