glendo Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) EDIT: DAMMIT! 2015 not 2014!!!!! <---------- my bad! I just had an idea, and it covers a couple of topics we have discussed on this forum. Market St.... It's not really one of the modulars, but is treated like one. We all regularly talk it's build quality compared to the others. Star Wars is famous for getting rebooted sets and newer versions of models, so i dreamed up this idea for a modular reboot! I propose for a small challenge/Contest within this very talented community that we come up with a 2015 spec Market st. proposed parameters: - roughly the same size - roughly the same colours We dont have comps on here as much as some of the other sub-forums (we are well overdue for another modular comp), so this could one to pass the time. No prizes, just all the glory. If we can get a few interested competitors, we could then collaborate on duration, rules, judges, scoring and other nitty gritty. this is just an idea i wanted to put out to the forum community as a small in-house contest. *this topic will be deleted in the next 24hrs if no-one is interested Edited January 17, 2015 by glendo Quote
Andy D Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Same approximate size ---- yes Colors --- there are lots of interesting colors and color combinations, I propose any colors. I hope this becomes an official EB contest! Just MHO, Andy D Edited January 17, 2015 by Andy D Quote
TheLegoDr Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I agree. Similar sizing would be important. Medium blue was big back then, but since then LEGO has introduced many new colors. I'd also recommend a change to color. So is the idea to recreate the official Market Street with updated pieces/techniques OR to create an entirely new "market street" that looks nothing like the previous one released? Quote
Andy D Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) I like the idea of a Market Street "inspired", not a necessarily a recreation. This does not have to be a contest, but it could be. Andy D Edited January 17, 2015 by Andy D Quote
Wookiee Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 This could be cool. Like it could be treated as a building renovation,The same bones but different colours and updated facade, maybe an extension within the baseplate. Quote
glendo Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Andy D - Colours are free choice (although i feel the blues are a signature of MS) the design is free choice. As long as it has the familiarity of MS in the end. TheLegoDr - Yes. the idea is a reboot of MS with new parts, colours, styles, build techniques. Translation of end product hopefully looks familiar but does not need to be identical. You guys get the idea.... Its 2015, let's see everybody's idea of a modern look and take on this. Concept: If MS was being released in 2015, show us what it would look like? - How many ppl are interested in submitting? - LDD or real bricks allowed? - one month comp? - judged by peers. If we could get a minimum of 5 entrants I think it would be great, but the more the merrier. Edited January 17, 2015 by glendo Quote
gazumpty Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I would be up for this...as apart from the annual Winter Contest...it would be great for the Town folk to show off our modular talents. Hopefully be picked up as a proper EB contest as this forum has some of the best modular designer/ builders out there. If actual lego could not be offered as a prize...even a wee 'MOC/ Modular' tag for your profile would be cool! Quote
