I am working on an exterior post FMC boxcar. I plan to use door rails for the exterior posts, and have decals that in some places will need to "wrap" around the rails. Given the change in height I am worried about how well the decals will set, and hobby sites seem to suggest a setter (for example, Micro Sol) to address this concern. Has anybody here used this on Lego before, especially around a corner or angled piece?

My other option could be to cut the decal into very thin strips, but that seems fraught with difficulty in application.

Are you concerned that you'll damage the Legos, or that it won't wrap well? In either case, I'd take a sacrificial part (maybe a 2x4?) and test the material there. You can use something else made of ABS (like a clone brand...) if you don't want to risk any Legos.

However, I'm guessing that the decals were intended for use on a relatively flat surface. In that case, wrapping them around the door rail will probably result in major distortion. In that case you're probably better off cutting the decal into pieces and applying the pieces only to surfaces facing the same direction (so say, only the side of the door rail).

Maybe you can include some pictures of the decal and where you intend it to go?

jtlan: Thanks. As I understand it, Micro Sol is designed to help wrap decals around irregular services (although more curves than hard corners) so l thought it might work. But after playing around with the bricks last night, I think the "T" provfile of the rail will proved too much of an obstacle to an effective wrap. Looks like I'll have to go with cutting the decals. Will make for some very delicate work with the X-Acto and tweezers. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I've always wondered though if Micro-Sol effects ABS though, did you see any discoloration or dissolving using the Micro-Sol on your legos? I have some bubbles to get out of some of my water slide decals. Thanks!

I've used it on all the decals I place, so far so good. With regards to ridges and such, it worked very well on profile bricks, but not sure how well it would work over an actual rail plate. Let us know!
