Raskolnikov Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Hey, I thought you all might be interested in this TIE Bomber that I made. I'm more of a redditor than a Eurobricks Forums or Flickr person, so here's a link to the imgur album: http://imgur.com/a/s2kU0 I know you guys seem to prefer the embedded pictures, and I did look into that. I think these pictures would be too big, though, so all you get is the link to the imgur album. Sorry! Anyway, I really liked the most recent Lego TIE Fighter so I decided to round out my original trilogy TIE Fighter collection with the Bomber. There's a mostly-MOC Interceptor in the pictures, too, but I'm sure you all have seen many similar Interceptor builds. Let me know what you think! Quote
GallardoLU Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 nice bomber, how sturdy are the rounds you used? I get the impression that its rather fragile. looks great though! Quote
tman684 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Awesome! I love your series so far! I wish lego would produce more tie variants that all look nice together like this Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Looks good - kind of a new approach with the round bricks! Quote
Raskolnikov Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 how sturdy are the rounds you used? I get the impression that its rather fragile. It is fragile, indeed, and looks were my top priority. But behind the engines are these 2 large half-circle pieces (like, 8 studs long) that are held to each other by technic pins. So it's not all quarter cylinders all the way back, and you've got two 8-wide, totally solid circles that are 2 studs from the back of the ship. They hold the cylinder shapes together. The big reason that it's fragile right now is mostly because I didn't plan it out ahead of time. I mean, I do think about what I want to build and order pieces I might end up using, but after that my process is to just start putting pieces together and see what happens. As a result, I didn't start with a technic structure inside it, meaning that everything (other than those semicircles and the pylons) is held together just by studs. If you shook it, the cylinders would just fall off. I think that can mostly be corrected, though, by adding some technic to the inside. I just have to get around to doing that. Quote
Kodan Black Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Looks good and all the rest of the TIEs do also. I'm probably on the other end of the scale when I build, I've dropped my stuff from a couple feet up before and had nothing even flinch. I over engineer my builds so they are solid. Quote
markus1984 Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Looks great! Nice update to the other TLC Tie`s! Really good work. markus Quote
James Wellington Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Very impressive! I've always loved the TIE Fighters, Bombers, Interceptors, etc. I also see you have a growing Imperial Army and Fleet. Quote
Fuppylodders Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 The Tie Bomber being one of my favourite star wars ships, I really like this! I wouldn't worry too much about it being 'fragile' as it is pretty much just the rear 3 rows of round bricks that is the fragile part isnt it? Unless you intend on flying it high with potential of it getting blasted out of the sky, Id be fine leaving it as it is as it looks really good to me :) I also like the use of the long bars (with the 1x2 plate attached) on the inside of the wings, nice little detail there :) Quote
Raskolnikov Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 I also like the use of the long bars (with the 1x2 plate attached) on the inside of the wings, nice little detail there :) Well, you know, they were lying around from the TIE kit that I bought for spare parts, heh. Anyway, thanks for the kind words, everyone! Quote
gcanik Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Nice bit of work. Fits perfectly with the LEGO produced TIE fighter from a few years back. Quote
JackJonespaw Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Really nice; that shot with the rest of the TIEs is impressive - it fits right in. Quote
Darth Malgus Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Love the tie bomber, lego needs to shpw it more love. Your MOC looks great! Quote
