DPrime Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I don't. Galaxy Squad never appealed to me for some reason. Exactly! For some reason they completely abandon space bases (centrals, HQ...call it anyway you like), Space Squad having some interest design concepts but the need for a big space central is quite high I guess...still hope they rerelease one of CS flagship brick that was the crater baseplate...ahhhh Even better, new ones with different craters! But even if that did happen, they'd be in the new grey, so... :( maybe a third party could tackle this in a matching light grey. I'm not one for mixing brick types but in this case I would, just to vary the scenery a bit. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Anyone missing the greatness of Galaxy Squad. Was really fun while it lasted. I'm a bit regretful I didn't look into them more. They had some of the least complimentary packaging I've ever seen, which caused me to miss that the sets were quite excellent, Take the Space Swarmer. On the box, it doesn't look like it'd be good for much more than completing the GS collection or for spare parts. Yet, in the plastic, it's one of my favorite Space sets and has one of the highest "swoosh" factors I've seen. Quote
___ Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Anyone missing the greatness of Galaxy Squad. Was really fun while it lasted. Well, GS had those original insectiod-like alien designs and bulky space craft/vehicles...it was not that bad tho it is definitelly not one of my beloved subthemes, anyway what I was impressed much as of a color and design was that dark pink trans cocoon, when I first saw it I become in love with it immediately, haha, very nice color and shape of it to my eyes. Even better, new ones with different craters! But even if that did happen, they'd be in the new grey, so... :( maybe a third party could tackle this in a matching light grey. I'm not one for mixing brick types but in this case I would, just to vary the scenery a bit. In my case I like the old gray much more than the new one bluish gray (or how is it named exactly)... BTW does anyone know why exactly they changed that color to the new one after year 2002? Was it because of plastic color of old gray was not produced by LEGOs plastic supplier or something? And if so, why - does the old gray have some special negative feature like more keen to catch fire or something? Quote

The colours were changed so that different coloured parts looked better together. The older greys don't look as good next to other colours as the new ones do. Same with the brown. Quote

DPrime Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 In my opinion, the older grays are better colored for stones, the new grays are better colored for machinery. They both look fine to me, to be quite honest, but I would rather they stuck to the old grey, if only so that stuff like Benny's SSS or the Exo-Suit matched a bit better. Quote

Yep, that change alienated a lot of people for the sake of arguably looking slightly better with a new grey. A huge mistake in my book. Quote

rodiziorobs Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 (edited) As part of a colour overhaul the old greys were discontinued and replaced by new ones. The colours were changed so that different coloured parts looked better together. The older greys don't look as good next to other colours as the new ones do. Same with the brown. I understood it to be not an issue of color preference, but to better standardize the actual manufacturing process. As they started to build more factories around the world, LEGO was getting plagued by color inconsistency depending on which factory the parts were produced at. The recoloring process was to make it easier and cheaper for any given factory to produce colors that more closely matched the production of other factories. I may be wrong on that, but since it came at a time when the company was having to evaluate a lot of other production factors, it makes a lot of sense. Anyone missing the greatness of Galaxy Squad. Was really fun while it lasted. I sadly never picked any up. I was recently out of my dark ages at the time and more interested in catching up on the castle sets I had missed. I see them now (at TRU, horribly marked up) and wish I hadn't passed up the chance. Edited April 1, 2015 by rodiziorobs Quote
eldiano Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 How much truth is in this? I went the Lego store, talked to assistant manager and asked him if the Pirates line is selling well, and he said yes, which was odd since the shelves were full of them, but since I was there with my twins playing for 45 min I noticed like two older guys buying full sets of pirates, which I struck another conversation about how much nostalgia is vested in old lines, he then went on about saying how he is excited for the upcoming space line which is coming out later on this year, I was like shocked, because I haven't heard anything, but he just said a follow up of the 70's80's sets, anyone heard anything? SMC Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Oh no, the castle rumour has now passed over to here. I would love it to be true but until we have some something like leaked pictures I am not even going to give it much thought. Quote
BrickJagger Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Oh no, the castle rumour has now passed over to here. What? I think this could happen. Considering that Lego is well aware that classic space sets like Benny's SSS sell well and the theme still has a very big following, they could be inclined to bring it back. However, the new line coming out later this year isn't very likely. We probably would have known about it by now, and it wouldn't make sense for it to come out the same time as Star Wars. Quote
SMC Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 What? There has been a rumour that a new castle line is coming that will include everything us afol ever wanted and now we have one for us space fans too. I agree that classic space could work but I am not holding out much hope until I see it. Quote
SMC Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 What? I didn't read who the poster was and just responded, bet you loved my response BrickJagger. Quote

As danth said, this has to be about the City Space subtheme coming next summer. What are the chances of Pirates, Castle and Space being released all together?? I don't think so Quote
BrickJagger Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 ^ It's happened before. 2007-First good Castle theme in awhile. It also went back to the roots of Castle more than the previous two sub themes. 2007-Space comes back for the first time in six years 2009-Pirates comes back for the first time in 12 years It could happen again: 2015-Pirates comes back for the first time in six years 2016-Castle comes back for the first time in three years 2016-Space comes back for the first time in three years It has been awhile since the last Castle and Space sets graced the shelves. 2014 was the first year that there wasn't a new set for Castle or Space. I don't know if it will be a classic return, but we will surely see something new for the theme next year. Quote

Here we are talikg about Pirates being released in march, Space "later this year" and Castle in Jan, 2016. That would be less than a year Sounds unlikely to me... Quote
BrickJagger Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I'm assuming that the release date he mentioned was incorrect. No way that happens. Earliest possible would be January 2016. That would make it about one year, but since these themes have been out of the spotlight for several years, Lego might be willing to revamp them all at the same time. Quote

Robert8 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 But Space fans got Benny's spaceship last year (One of the best 2014 sets IMO) If TLG keeps The LEGO Movie theme alive, maybe we could see another Benny-themed set before 2017 Quote
