v6TransAM Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) Howdy, I just want some pieces to build a simple crossing or two so my boy quits taking apart everything with tiles to make them Tried the library section and bricklink and ebay lol. Not sure on parts however or if they differ from other tiles for between the rails since we are using plastric track for PF trains Also at a loss on finding the actual sloped piece part number for the outside the rail approach. Please help me not go nuts by rebuilding everything on a weekly basis :-) Edited January 11, 2015 by v6TransAM Quote
legoman666 Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4515 4 of these will do it with some tiles in the middle of the rails. Quote
v6TransAM Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Cool, thanks man, I wasn't looking for them under slopes(I suck at bricklink unless i have part numbers already) So I know the crossings used the slopes for the approach, it is just regular tiles between the rails then? Or did they ever have pieces made for between the rails with tiles on top? Plain tiles on top of plates between the rails seems to catch some equipment so I was wondering about the official crossings. Quote
dr_spock Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I used regular 1x8 tiles between the rails. I found a pic of the crossing in 60051. They used 1x8 tiles too. Quote
Ashi Valkoinen Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 You can use tiles, one plate goes on the plate of the train track, and the tile goes on this plate. Just make sure, that you press it down enough, if not connected properly train motor may pick it up. Quote
1974 Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) Or did they ever have pieces made for between the rails with tiles on top? Of course, back when trains actually mattered to TLG, we had everything Part 812, Train Level Crossing Center Rail Cap Insert 2 x 14 x 2/3 Which fittet into this : Part 813, Train Level Crossing Base Edit : These parts no not fit with PF btw, it was just a history lesson Cheers, Ole Edited January 13, 2015 by 1974 Quote
antp Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 (edited) I also have that old one, but the use of slope and tiles is much older than recent PF sets: they already used that for 12V crossings in 1983 In a way, the 1983-current brick-built rail crossing is more in the Lego spirit than the old one that you presented which is just two big single-usage parts ;) (ok, the part going in the middle is not single usage: they used it as crane rail in two sets) Edited January 13, 2015 by antp Quote
1974 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Yeah, the 4515 slope was invented for exactly that purpose. I much prefer this way also, but the OP asked if there was a special tile for that and indeed TLG made one eons ago Now let's debate, what crossing gate is the best? The classic 4512pb01 + counterweight : Or something discretely build : Quote
antp Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 (edited) I only have http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7834-1 with the even older gates http://www.bricklink...em.asp?P=815c01 / http://www.bricklink...em.asp?P=815c02 :) I wish I had http://www.bricklink...em.asp?S=7866-1 but it is rather expensive nowadays (well, it wasn't cheap back in the 80s either...)
