neoconagenda Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Apologies if this should have been under "general questions". I currently have 12" (30.5cm) wide shelves to display my UCS sets. I want to add the ISD (10030) and although the entire ship will not fit within that space, does anyone know if the base of the stand will fit within the 12" shelf width? Quote
GallardoLU Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Well I don't own the set the size and some quick math suggest it will not fit, its 20 inches wide (8 inches more than you have available) that would mean the base it sits on could be no larger than 4 inches wide (2 inches per side of ship), this I find highly unlikely. a 15inch shelf would be much more likely to do the job, (base could then be up to 10 inches wide and still be fully on the shelf) Quote
dr_spock Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) I have the set on my hutch with the widest part of the ship 1" from the wall. I measured 12 inches from the wall, that gets to the center point of the stand. You would still have about 2-3" of stand dangling over the edge of your 12" shelf. You could try angling the ship against the wall but the stand is towards the back of the ship. I think you'll still have part of stand over the shelf edge. I am not going to test that. It's difficult to move around... Edited January 5, 2015 by dr_spock Quote
neoconagenda Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Thanks for the fast response. I think my way forward will be to use 16" shelves on the bottom level. Quote
Chills Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I made my own shelf for 10030; had to reinforce it a bit for the weight and size of the ship. I used 2x2 furring strips cut to size, bolted them to regular steel shelf brackets, then bolted a shelf from IKEA to the top. I cut the corners and painted them to get the Death Star look. Quote
neoconagenda Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Ahhh the Death Star room... Back to reality... Another benefit to using the wider shelf will be the extra space for the planet seris and some other small sets to be displayed. Quote
Chills Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) I totally forgot to put the measurement! Sorry. The front edge of the shelf is 16.5" from the wall, so there's a bit of space between 10030 and the wall; maybe like 1/8". The shelf itself is about 7" wide I believe. So depending on your display area you could add to a current shelf by using supports underneath, like the 2x2s I used to extend the reach of the brackets. Edited January 6, 2015 by Chills Quote
