Wobo Ihi Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I think my current status can be described as "semi-dark age". Hopefully it'll be over soon. Quote

Greatdane Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 i think the dark ages around around 13-18 , im 21 now and only came out of mine last year, the last set i got before that was fort legorado when i was around 13, all i can say is damn i suda snapped out when i saw the cool SW *vader* sets! Quote
zouave Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I'm sure my dark ages are on their way at a steady pace. lego is my hobby. And with all my hobbies they usually blow out after 4-5 years. :-( (And making myself broke). :-P That really reminds me of someone. (Me!) As for school, I have my small group of friends who don't laugh at me. A few actually even like lego. X-O How lucky you are. I made the mistake of showing off my Lego in school. Now I'm that wierd kid who plays with toys. :-$ It all got destroyed in a story I really don't want to relate. :-( I bet it's not as bad as "The Great Fire Cracker War of 1999." J.J. Walkers did this, not me. ;-) Lego vs. G.I. Joe. Fire crackers bombarded the Lego troops till half of them melted away. Quote
optimus-convoy Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Like many here, I never really had a dark age. Though I do frequently shift main interests. (It's usually Lego/Transformers/Video Games/random others) It usually shifts every few months, or when I just find another more interesting. At this point, I don't think I'd become disinterested in one of those for long period of time. As for school, I have my small group of friends who don't laugh at me. A few actually even like lego. X-OHow lucky you are. I made the mistake of showing off my Lego in school. Now I'm that wierd kid who plays with toys. :-$ Hmm. I have actually brought in some of my MOCs to my English class during my Junior year of High school for a "bring in your hobby/talent for extra credit day" and I got nothing but praise for my creations. It even got me some respect in that classroom. What a strange experience that was... X-D Quote
DB24 Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I've never really had dark ages either. Although between the ages of 16-18 i didn't buy any new sets (ok, maybe one). But i've never stopped building things though! Quote
Wobo Ihi Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Would you care to elaborate for us? I'm very interested in this topic, since I will most likely be the next victim.. ;-) I buy new sets once in a while, but very infrequently. It started in 2005, I believe. Maybe it's just because they don't sell as big assortment of LEGO sets as they used to around here... I'm tired. Hope my grammar isn't all messed up. Quote
Norrington Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 (edited) I've avoided large Dark Ages by keeping schooling and Lego seperate. I tell friends who I can trust, and that's it. I once made, for my religion class, a diorama of the Last Supper, and brought some Brick Testament books, an I got extra credit. Then I let people forget about it, so I didn't become "That weird kid who plays with Lego". The Lego sits at home, being used for Mocing, display, and play, but it's private. Something personal. I only bring it to school or mention it if I would get extra credit or something. Though, Lego has feded out of my life, but allways been there, so I don't consider them Dark Ages because Lego is still present. 3-5: Begining of Lego Hobby 5-10: GI Joe and Star Wars, occasional Lego MOCs 10-12: Star Wars: Books, figures, Lego Now-??: Current Edited July 17, 2007 by Norrington Quote
El Bucanero Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Let's put it like this: I have a dark age, every once in 2 months... Although you shouldn't say age, because they normally don't take more than two days... And every time one ends, my love for LEGO grows (it's slowly getting a passion). But my last dark days were months ago! I returned from my trip from LEGOland germany two days ago, and the miniland was so great, I decided never to stop with LEGO building. I'd love to learn proffesional building and work for LEGO! Mr Tiber... Quote
freddy_LC Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I've started the lego hobby in summer 2005 and my last dark age starded in spring 2007 and finished in summer 2007(the date of my birthday :-D ).I think my dark age finish because i've new lego sets. Quote
SalvoBrick Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I've had multiple "dark ages", mostly because I was interested in other hobbies or because I lived in different places where I couldn't keep or collect Lego. I finished buying Lego sets (mostly space sets) in 1982, when I was 14, but in the same time I started to buy town sets for collecting purpouses... I had recurring periods of renewed interest when I was 17, when I was 21 and more recently in 1997, when I discovered the AFOL community on the internet: during all those periods I bought some town sets, mostly small, and I built a small diorama, but basically I didn't had the money to spend for this hobby, and I was ashamed to show the new sets to my parents. But after 2004 I've gained economic indipendence, so I can buy more sets than ever, and after I've discovered the AFOL community I'm not ashamed anymore to show my town diorama :) Quote
Wout Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 When I was around 14 I had it too busy with school and homework. I still picked up a catalog once a year to see what they had new, but I never bought something. I found myself to old for it and was also very interrested in more grown-up interrests. When I was around 21 I got a female friend who played with lego (trains-town, castle and Soccer/footbal) and she gave me the virus again. When some lego Star wars was on sale, I bought my first sets after my dark ages and I never felt bad about that. Anonymus Afols on :-D Quote
Jo the Moe Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 highschool and college are weird, In highschool i was definately not playing with lego after all image means a lot, and at that age the most omportant thing about school is finsing who you are. Since i started college i found that i dont care what other people think, and anything is cool if you make it cool (cept rape that aint cool ever) besides me being an architecture major (probably has to do with me playing with legos as a kid) made me find them back naturally when i was making a quick mockup house. The way i see it, legos will be very important in making quick models, i can make a 3d one on computer, or a 3d one out of bricks in half the time with something to actually give the customer (im sure when i am in the industry i will be able to afford much more realistic figs and cars and stuff) so yeah, lego in high aint so cool, in college way rad Quote

Oh, stuff image, it's a waste of time. Like I said, I just went for it. People should know me as who I am, and if they don't like it, then tough. It's their loss. However, that's just me. Different people take longer to show who they really are. I know that one of my friends presents (well, presented, we've finished now) herself as completely different at school, than when she's not.
