Zepher Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 The heroes continue on their way through the Hovels until they come to... perhaps to no one's surprise at this point... a bar. "Leave your weapons at the door," grunts the Ogre, and with a nod from Everstien the heroes agree. "Welcome to Lady Luck's Locale." The place is called Lady Luck's Locale, and it's crawling with low-lifes, thieves and smugglers. Everstien navigates it deftly, not bothering to glance at any of the scum, leading the party to a table near the back. Soon the heroes are able to make out a man and woman talking in the low lighting. The man laughs. "No, no, don't you worry about it, ma cherie. You don't look a day past dead at all. Besides, who are we to judge others for looks, right? Olegaia has got all sorts of freaky looking folks scattered all around it and I think they're all beautiful but not half as beautiful as you are." She shuffles, and then notices the heroes. Her skin is a little... pale. Her eyes flicker for a second, looking as if they're about to turn to aggression, but then they return to their neutral stare. "You have guests." "Ta-da." "Howdy there, Shawe!" exclaims Johnny. "And my word, you brought friends. Is that Everstien I see? And Elba. Hola, Elba. How's it going. And a vampire! Ho-ho-ho. Don't see nearly enough of those round this city if you ask me. I've thought about being one myself, don't you know? What do you think of it?" "You megablocks! You're late." Johnny looks around. "Well crap in a hat! I've been here all night and all morning, that means. Damn place never closes! Sorry, I got wrapped up chatting with this lovely gal right here. Red Assassin, don't you know? But she survived death or something of that sort, and now she doesn't have to worry about all the silly strings attached to that red oath of theirs. Not a bad friend to have, wouldn't you say?" He gives Shawe a meaningful look. "She's just having a bit of trouble adjusting to being undead and all that. Sure you understand. Apparently it muddles some things up." "Everything feels like a never ending dream. Before my death, the present, even the future." "Yeah, see, she's full of stuff like that. Avery is her name. I don't think she can feel time much anymore either." "You had me worried. Had to have these heroes and Everstien help me track you down. I owe Elba a bottle of Charisian Wine now." "It happens! Tell you what, I feel bad. First drink is on me. For everyone. Elba, I know you could use a glass of something." He looks at the heroes. "Well, don't stand around, sit down! What would you like? I'll get it. They've got Mead, Mulled Wine, Ale, the works." "We don't have a lot of time..." "We'll stay for one drink." Elba leans over to U'Or and the heroes. "This is still the quest for my present, and I think we deserve a reward. Tell him what you'd like, heroes. And it'll be quick, U'Or. I promise. If it takes too long you can drag me out of here by my ear." U'Or sighs, but nods. Quote
bionicle_fanatic Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Karl looked with mixed feelings of intrigue and revulsion at the zombie woman. "Takes all kinds to make a world..." He murmured, but low enough to be inaudible. When asked which beverage he would prefer, he scratched his chin in thought, and looked over at the bar. "You don't think they'd have hot chocolate, do you?" He didn't care if it sounded unusual, or even childish, his head was still doing a bass-drum impression and he rather fancied his favorite drink. "Come on!" exclaims Shawe. "If you're having a drink, have a drink. Tell you what, Everyman can pay for your hot chocolate, and I'll pay for something stronger." And then, under his breath to Karl: "chances are high I'll be stuck with the whole bill anyway, and whatever else Everyman has had to drink over the last few days." "Trust me, it ain't the most jovial of conditions, though if one has to walk around on this planet for the rest of eternity it beats being a zombie or a specter any day." Boris took a seat at the table. "You wouldn't happen to serve Myrrh by any chance? Imagine it doesn't get much call for around here. If not, a gin and tonic will do just fine." Avery looks balefully at the vampire, but doesn't say anything about his dig. "Doesn't do much for your looks, huh? If'n it wasn't for that, I might have ya bite me here and now. You ain't gonna find no myrrh in a place like this, but I can fix you up nice and easy with that gin and tonic, ma amigos." Quote
Mencot Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Keliim looked around, the place was filled with low-lifes and freaks but Keliim had seen worse at the last Illusion´s Inn. He sat down and asked for a Mead. Quote
bionicle_fanatic Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Karl shrugged. "Fine then. Umm... how about... eh, I'll have a mead. Thanks." He'd never had the stuff before, sticking only to ale and other small tonics. But his first quest was a time to celebrate a little, he thought, so he might as well indulge. Quote
Zepher Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 The party sits down and has a drink with their employers and their friends. Conversations snippets float around, but the bar is loud and it's hard to catch anything in particular if you're not focusing on it, and mostly the heroes are taking in the scenery as opposed to the conversation topics. Besides, they hardly seem relevant to them... more the sort of thing more advanced heroes might have to investigate. "And the Golden-Eyed fellow almost did tear me limb from limb, just because of that damn Hinckwell - the one time he steals my shipment instead of the other way around..." "Righto, amigo, that was a the Weeping Inn, right? That's the place. Zane, XX and I stopped there after leaving Eubric that time that chaomancer got all crazy. I'll tell you, Zane is a hoot when he's drunk because it's not just him drinking, it's like fifty souls or something drinking and they all start to try to express themselves..." "And the second... or maybe it was the third time, they ended up just trying to kill everyone. Tsk. Not the approach I would have taken." U'Or clears his throat and looks at Elba. "Well, gentlemen, ladies, this has been fun." He stands up and so does Shawe. "I'll bring it to the Manor tonight. Thanks for the help, heroes, Elba, U'Or." "Only thing left to do is make sure they show up with the presents, huh?" The heroes turn into an alley and start to make their way down in when suddenly there is a noise like a thunderclap! Standing in front of the heroes is a strange glowing figure in red robes, hand raised. "The master would like to see you," it intones grimly. U'Or turns around quickly and looks in the other direction, but there's another thunderclap! And the way is blocked by another glowing humanoid shape. "The master has been looking for you." A stream of billowing smoke flies through the sky, aiming right towards the heroes. U'Or covers his head as the smoke slams down into the ground next to them... but all that emerges from it is a regular looking man. He snaps his fingers and the strange glowing creatures fade away. "Oh, good, I have been looking for you everywhere." "Nevron save us, there isn't a less terrifying way for you to get our attention?" Elba glances over at U'Or. "You can uncover your eyes, U'Or, it's just Chauncey." "Oh... oh..." pants U'Or, but then he giggles in relief. "Chauncey, thank all the Gods. How long have you been in town long?" "I just arrived. I hear that you are doing some shopping for the Doc. I would like to assist. He has helped me with an impossible to count number of projects over the last many years and I would like to get something that will help an interest of his." He bows to the heroes. "Hello." Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Boris nodded before inquiring of Elba and U'ors, "Friend of yours I assume? Quote
Mencot Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Keliim politely greats the stranger but thinks to himself, who is this now then! Quote
Zepher Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 "His name is Lord Chauncey." "I will handle introducing myself- if that is quite alright with you. My name is Lord Chauncey, and I am from the town of Bric'Lin or rather that is where I currently live." Lord Chauncey's eyes stayed steadily aimed at the heroes, seemingly making eye contact with them all at once. "I am a good friend of Gerald Guffington, or at least I would hope to think so. He is, at the very least, a good friend of mine, as are all of his stellar employees. Doc Daneeka, as I mentioned, has done much work that I have found intriguing over the years and so I believe it is time that I thank him." He turns to Elba and U'Or. "May I borrow your heroes for my mission? It involves the sewers, and I know you do not like going down into them much and besides my contact down there does not like to be seen by more eyes than necessary." "What do you say, U'Or? We've got a bit of time to kill before the party." "Of course you may borrow them, Lord Chauncey!" "Well in that case it is just up to your heroes." Chauncey continues to stare them down. "What do you say, heroes? Would you be willing to assist me as well?" Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) Boris returned Chauncey's stare, glare for glare. "If Elba and U'ors are fine with it, I don't see why not. I'm in, what about you chaps?" Edited January 20, 2015 by Waterbrick Down Quote

bionicle_fanatic Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Karl gasped as the smoke plummeted towards the ground, wildly recalling some fragment of conversation in the inn involving a demon or something, and quickly equipped his Little Flame. At Elba's reaction though, he relaxed and stuck it back into his belt, still keeping it within arm's reach. "Chauncy, huh? Please to meet you. Maybe. So you need help, huh? We're the very heroes for the job! Especially me, seeing as I actually managed to navigate the sewers all the way from the" Privately he was wondering why someone who had control over two unearthly beings and the power to teleport out of the sky wanted a ragtag group of heroes to do his bidding, but he kept his mouth shut. For once. Quote
Zepher Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Chauncey raises an eyebrow as Karl stops mid-sentence, failing entirely to detail what portions of the sewers he had navigated in the past. "Very well then let's go down under the streets, heroes." Lord Chauncey flings out his hand and a manhole cover nearby flies up and then turns suddenly to dust. Lord Chauncey waves them forward. "We will meet you at the house, I believe," he says to Elba and U'Or. The heroes and Chauncey descend, leaving Elba and U'Or to their own devices. "Are you not worried that we are going to go have a meeting with the Wolfgang?" Chauncey asks the heroes. "Or are you the sort of heroes who don't get their pants all in a tizzy over simple things like that?" He chuckles. "We aren't going to go meet the Wolfgang, though, so you don't have to worry. We are on our way to meet something supernatural, though. I know that you are well versed in the supernatural, but this... being... is even more so than you may be used to." He blushes. "But what do I know? I just ask you be respectful. She is easily... agitated." "Glad to see you're not late. Everyone else is. Where the Hel is Morta? She was supposed to be here days ago to take over this shift." The woman sighs. "She's probably at a bar or something. What a pain to have as a sister. Of course she's off having fun while I'm stuck with the thankless duty of keeping an eye on Baba Yaga." The woman turns to the heroes. "These are the mortals you got to assist you?" She sniffs them. "Karl, Keliim, Boris. Pah. They're weak." "If you ask for my assistance, you will have to simply put up with the way that I choose to operate." He turns to the heroes. "This is Nona, since she seems unlikely to introduce herself. She's a witch." "Yeah, but not like those witches you've got in your Hall. Weak imitations. Disgust me. Don't know how Copper Fox learned anything about us. And not like Baba either. That woman is a witch only in one sense of the word." "Relax, Nona. No one made any comparisons. What can we help you with?" Nona grunts. "There are some soldiers poking around. Not the Wolfgang type - can't hardly call those soldiers - but a more armored brutish sort. They're here for me in particular. They're marching on me right now, actually. Two forces. I'd deal with them myself, but... well, you know how it is. That whole don't act megablocks deal that Deci has us on." "So you want us to disarm them, then?" "That's the idea. The ones from the North have got a powerful man with them. Not to be messed with. I think it's best you go deal with them. There is a second force though, smaller, but equally prepared to capture me should the first fail. That's what your weaklings can do. They're to the south." "Are you prepared then, heroes?" asks Chauncey. Quote
Mencot Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Keliim and then the witch, sighted and got his axe ready. "Yes, we are. Ain't we boys!" Keliim thought to himself, what is the matter with people here, they seem to be drawing trouble like moths to fire. Quote
Zepher Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Nona smiles maliciously. "That is the place of witches on Olegaia. You are mere children in our eyes - nay, infants. We do not draw trouble, we draw everything." Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) Boris had been sure they were meeting with the Wolfgang, this was indeed an interesting development. He didn't mind being insulted by the witch, whatever powers she was serving probably had the firepower to back it up, diplomacy was more than likely the best tactic for the time being. "If not Wolfgang, then who? Can't imagine anyone else would want to be down here for long." Edited January 20, 2015 by Waterbrick Down Quote
Zepher Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 "I don't recognize them." She stares hard at the vampire. "You were a Paladin once. Where has your angel gone? They have angels with them too, some of them. Small beasts of burden with big heads, no offense to your's, I'm sure. I don't like the little light creatures. But they aren't Paladins. Waterbrick Down Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Boris stared at the witch at the mention of his past, anger slowly stirring in him. The vampire remembered waking up with the emptiness, the loneliness, the absence of his companion. He did not know why Ennoc would test his devotion in such a way, but he had striven to live with acceptance. "I don't need him anymore." Boris curtly answered before expending another ether to patch up his sore side from his last battle. "If it is not Paladins, then I am sure we'll have no issue dealing with them. I'm ready, Karl?" "Are you not worried that we are going to go have a meeting with the Wolfgang?" Chauncey asks the heroes. "Or are you the sort of heroes who don't get their pants all in a tizzy over simple things like that?" Karl stiffened visibly, turning and staring at their guide with a mixture of shock, excitement and resolve. But then Chauncy went on to explain they weren't going to be dealing with any of the city's most infamous house, and he relaxed but looked slightly disappointed. Revenge was going to have to wait for another time, another place. "This is Nona, since she seems unlikely to introduce herself. She's a witch." "We noticed..." Karl observed Nona with wary eyes. Things just kept getting stranger and stranger. He began to wonder what this new bunch of adversaries would be like, but stopped, deciding his imagination would probably exaggerate to the point where he'd flee from them as soon as they made contact. Boris asked if he was ready, and Karl mutely nodded, drawing his Little Flame and twirling it about in fancy arcs. "Let's do this. Just point the way.. ma'am." He faltered only slightly at the term, hoping that it was the proper way to address a witch. Quote

Waterbrick Down Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Boris did not respond to the witch's parting words, it would seem not even his own feelings were his own alone. Sloshing through the waste and filth of the sewers the cleric focused on some of the more encouraging passages from the holy books but was quickly interrupted by the approaching armed men. "Seems like everyone's always saying that. Trust me bub it's easier said than done." Hefting his mace, the vampire brought the heavy weighted weapon down in an arcing swing on the Soldier's helm from the front row. Quote

The battle begins all messy-like. Keliim is able to hack at the leader, denting his armor and knocking the wind out of him.
