I'm really rather confused as to why Lego would re-release the 8041, now 42041, Race Truck??? It really wasn't that great or popular a set back in 2010. One would think they would release something more substantial with actual features. All the 42041 has going for it is a V8 engine w/ that ugly corrugated pipe and just steering. I can think of a dozen more sets from 2009 on that had a lot more going for them than this simple model. 8258 and 8265 come to mind, although as far as loaders go, probably 8265 may not be on their list as the 42030 came out last summer. Why not a re-release of the coveted 8455, heck even the 8436 was better than the 8041/42041. Or better yet, a re-release of the 8275 from 2007 or the 8043 from 2010. Odd...

I believe that TLG re-released the 8041 (now 42041) over other retired sets because it was a limited edition model therefore only a limited amount were produced. I wonder if we will see a re-released version of the 41999 limited edition 4x4 crawler. Hope that answers your question.

and lego have a history of lego re-releasing sets - sometimes 3 times - if it didn't work or make money they would have stopped ages ago

I own set 8041 and I have to say it's good set. Yes, it has limited functions but it has big part count and is suitable for alternative models. I've already built formula 1 and hot rod out of this set. Now I'm working on BIG propeller plane.
