Shouts can be heard echoing in the sewers-- no doubt a call for retreat. Without a doubt, Barus and Marcellus had entered the sewer and made their escape-- Slate rushes towards the heroes, rapier in-hand, sweat beading on his forehead. "I was going to ask if you were alright, but it seems I don't have to. Good work, heroes. No doubt that was only a fraction of their forces, but with luck they won't try the sewers again." A familiar presence speaks up from behind the heroes, the tips of his spears streaked with blood. "Ha! Knowing the Ironwill, they'll just come more prepared. Watch the tunnels well, Slate." The man saunters over to Slate, joining him, and inspects the heroes with a wide grin. "You folk are impressive. First the thugs at the bar, now this. I like you." "You know them?" "About as well as I need to." "Captain! Your Orders?" "Get men into the tunnels. Don't let them push further into the city. Hem them into a corner if you can-- if not, push them towards the exit." "That almost sounds fun. Maybe I'll get a head start and meet the retreating Ironwill there. Wait, investigators-- Did you not join forces with the cloaked man and his guard dog after killing off those thugs? Where are they?" Edited January 23, 2015 by Emjajoas Quote

Palathadric Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Rushing towards the battle, I can't even make it there before Hoke and Guts kill everyone in sight. "...Well, that was uneventful!" I mumble disappointedly. "If things are this easy, perhaps we should pursue them all the way to their city and see what treasures they hold there. ...Hopefully their smithy is an improvement on this one at least." "Wait, investigators-- Did you not join forces with the cloaked man and his guard dog after killing off those thugs? Where are they?" "Apparently in the sewers...they appear to like the atmosphere." Chromeknight Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) Nerwen blinks, another fast battle. If that's the standard of Ironwill soldiers, the Overwatch shouldn't have too much of a problem. Yes, we were with the cloaked man. Why do you ask about him? Edited January 22, 2015 by Chromeknight Quote
Emjajoas Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 "Now tell me if I'm wrong. Are you the Ironwill prince?" "Ha! No. I'm no prince. The Overwatch hired me to help keep the sewers safe on my way through town. Apparently I look an able sort." "Apparently in the sewers...they appear to like the atmosphere." "I'm sure it suits them," Garett laughs. Nerwen blinks, another fast battle. If that's the standard of Ironwill soldiers, the Overwatch shouldn't have too much of a problem. Yes, we were with the cloaked man. Why do you ask about him? "I ask because although he was with you for a while, now he is not. I'm the suspicious sort. I also recognize him, unless my memory fails me. And also because if you are going to hunt him, I'm going to join you. His servant looks like a fun match." I dig in the nearby dirt with my Magic Shovel before checking my Magic Compass just to confirm that Marcellus and Barus really are in the sewers. Pretzel manages to dig through the nearby dirt, finding a gold bar. The Magic Compass does indeed point towards the Sewers-- confirming that the duo made a hasty retreat. Quote
Chromeknight Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 You were paid to keep the sewers safe? They should get their money back, doesn't look like you did a good job. If you're as good at hunting as you are at keeping sewers safe, I don't think we'll need your help. Besides, we have had enough of random strangers joining us for their own purposes then scampering. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 "No reason to stand around and talk about it," Hoke says as he makes his way to the sewers. Torc seemed to get a slight gleam in her otherwise cold cat-like eyes, remembering the feast she gorged on in her last trip into a sewer. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 "Ha! No. I'm no prince. The Overwatch hired me to help keep the sewers safe on my way through town. Apparently I look an able sort." "Or they were just impressed you managed to steal an Adamantite spear somewhere. Let's go." Besides, we have had enough of random strangers joining us for their own purposes then scampering. "What's the worst that can happen? He betrays us and dies? In which case, we have an Adamantite spear." Quote
UsernameMDM Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 "What's the worst that can happen? He betrays us and dies? In which case, we have an Adamantite spear." "Exactly. Did you just not see what we did?" Quote
Palathadric Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 "Or we kill him before he can cause trouble and take the spear at once," I grumble so he cannot hear. I'll be leaving tomorrow. Don't know what my internet will be like. It'll certainly be limited at best. I should be back to normal activity in roughly ten days. Quote
The Legonater Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I'll keep the loot for now. Honestly, I think we can handle these forces ourselves, but sure we can take him. Quote
Chromeknight Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Nerwen's voice was firm. Nah, the betraying and dying'd be fine, it's the betraying and then running away so we have to chase him, or worse, when we can't chase him that would be bad. Worse still would be having to come back to this place six months later for a whole 'nother quest to put an end to his megablocking betrayals. So no, he can't come, we've got no reason to trust him and he can offer no surety. Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 "I say leave him. If he follows so be it. We can't really stop him unless we fight him now, which kind of defeats the purpose of thinking he'd betray us cause we'd fight anyways. Besides fighting is just wasting our time. We need to move into the sewers." Quote
Emjajoas Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 "So be it," Garrett shrugs. "I'll join the Overwatch forces, Slate, and slaughter anyone trying to make their way deeper into the city. Best of luck, investigators." Slate watches Garrett rush off, bowing to the heroes. "Aye. Best of luck." Without further ado, the heroes descent into the sewers, ankle-deep in murky water. Dim ember-lit torches line the walls, giving off a faint light. The heroes follow the flow of the sewage, quickly jogging through twists and turns, screams echoing through the corridors as Ironwill and Overwatch soldiers alike were slaughtered. The heroes, after a short few minutes of feeble exploring, finally see light at the end of the tunnel. Light-- --and two familiar faces. Were they guarding the exit with more Ironwill forces? From the looks of things, this may be their final battle in Ovalen. Were the heroes prepared? Quote
The Legonater Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Well, we caught up with these freaks pretty quickly. I notch an arrow. Hey! Mind explaining yourselves? The evidence against you is looking pretty incriminating. Civilized people don't just run off. Could've at least left a postcard. Quote
