New parts for Classic Space Sets

Hi,

I am trying to rebuilt some sets from the Classic Space era, and I have two questions...

What would be the best replacement (in term of functonnality and available on Pick-a-Brick, but I don't need the same length) for the 'Hinge Plate 2 x 9 (Complete Assembly Shortcut)' (3324c01).

Is Medium Stone Grey the closest color to the OldGray color of Classic Space models (like 6970-1: Beta-1 Command Base)?

I am sorry to say, but there is no real modern substitute for the hinge you describe. You could possibly use these modern parts, but they do not close flush.

Also, yes, Medium Stone Gray is closest to old gray. The difference is almost unnoticeable, in fact.

In plain natural light or on photos with flash, the difference is quite noticeable.

Under yellowish lamps however, then it looks similar.

So they "close" with a space of a tile between them?

Do they work with a "standard" Technic pin? The two round parts don't really look symmetrical?

But if your going to go to the effort of buying from pick a brick, you'll have to either pay delivery or spend a minimum of circa £50 GBP or equivilent, as the original parts are still available and not super expensive on bricklink, why not just buy the original part from a seller who has one and keep the integrity of a classic set complete and accurate?

If you ever sell the classic space sets, having them complete and accurate would surely be in your favour financially.
