Both, my town NEEDS a police force to prevent rioting. thouth i would MUCH prefer cafe corner.

(yes, i am 12...)

Iwent the other day to TRU to see if anything new caught my eye. There was a boy (probbly around 11 or so) that was trying to decide between the the poilce station or the new airport. The mother nocticed the new creator house and asked

"Won't you rtather have this nice little house instead?"

"Ewww!" he said. "Boys don't play house mom!" lol. I though it was preety funny.

I have to agree with him though. Although i wouldn't have minded a lego house like that when i was a kid, it probbly wouldn't have been the first thing on my list. I would have been doing the same thing that kid was doing. Attually, when it came to bigger sets, i think i preety much knew what i wanted when i came into the store.

You guys need to think aboutt his from a young buyer point of veiw. Be honest with yourself. If your a 12yr old kid, what would you rather have. A post office, restrant, librarie, or a shiny new police station with police cars and such. Again, think of this from a childs point of view. I went into this a little bit in the 08 jan. sets.

In general you're right, 5150 Lego.

But notice that there aren't only kids which buy Lego City sets - even AFOLs like me do. And why shouldn't kids not be interested in shops and apartment houses. I mean: There have been some shops like http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/6373-1?showpic=5974 and http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/6699-1?showpic=2069 and some apartment houses like http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/376-2?showpic=1109 and http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/6372-1?showpic=1220 and http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/1854-1?showpic=988 ... and they were buyed by kids, too. So why shouldn't kids buy shops and houses today, too?

Another argument is that Lego City sets aren't often buyed by kids themselves but by their parents or grandparents - mainly before Christmas time. And these parents amd grandparents would surely buy a nice apartment house, a hotel or a supermarket, too.

By the way: As I never thought in the years from 1996 to 2006 that TLC would ever release a new airport (which I personally don't like - i find the planes too big) and a new harbor (which I personally like very much - mainly the big nice ship and the little red cottage) I really think that TLC will release something like a bank, an apartment house and some shops in the next years - otherwise this would be inconsequent.

Good points and examples Klaus. Those little motorcycle shops were nice. I can see how kids would be intersted thoses little shops. Those houses were nice too. I'm not saying that no one would buy them, butmore of what would people more prefer. It no doubt that people want little shops and such. Has lego built them in the past? Yes. Did they do well? Don't know. My guess is that not as well as the'd hoped whitch is why we haven't seen anything simular for quite some time. Do the police themes do well? Absolutly. No question there. This is why like it or not, you'll see new police stations ever 3 to 4 yrs.

Now as far as kids don't buy the sets, your right. Parents grandparents and such ussually do. BUt most of the time there not out to buy for themselfs. There out to buy what there child/grandchild wants. There is a huge AFOL cumminity. This is whyi fell banks libraries andsuch would be better suited for the cafe" corner and market street style sets. Mainly becasue sets like these don't offer much in function that other city sets do. Sets that have higher levels of detail than your average city set.
