Ricecracker Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 MOC as in sock and afol as in "a fall" Quote
Lt. Veers Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I voted MOC rhymes with sock and AFOL is spelled out. Quote
Username_Taken Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Err... I guess I'm the only one who pronounces MOC like moke. (rhymes with poke). I also say AFOL as the letters A.F.O.L -U_T Quote
hollisbrick Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I voted MOC rhymes with sock and AFOL is spelled out. Same Quote
Hinckley Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 Seriously?I'd never have thought that. It's like hearing something funny and going "Loll loll loll!" Thought for sure anyone would just spell it out A-F-O-L. When was the last time you heard an alien abductee say he was take aboard a oofoh? Well, Mr. Smarty-Pants I agree with you but it looks like we are in the minority. Most people pronounce it as a word. Actually, I do usually say ay-fole, but always spell M-O-C...Funny, I've never spelled BURP, LURP or CRAPP, though. Spelling it out takes the fun out of it. :-D crap... :-P Quote

I pronounce MOC as "moke" and AFOL as "Ay-fall". Will Edited December 6, 2007 by Mr. Mandalorian Quote

Actually, I do usually say ay-fole, but always spell M-O-C... ___________ I'm the other way round funnily enough, I say MOC as in "Mock", but spell out A-F-O-L. Clearly as the Batmobile has morphed into the Brickmobile! >:-) Quote
Kliq Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 ___________I'm the other way round funnily enough, I say MOC as in "Mock", but spell out A-F-O-L. I do the same. I figure that if it doesn't sound smooth, you might as well just spell it out. BURP sounds good, MOC sounds good, but AFOL just sounds ridiculous. Quote
jedikermit Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I spell out both of them, but I don't think I've ever used the terms aloud, even when I have met some AFOLs. It didn't come up. And if I tried saying "AFOL" to my wife, that'd be the straw that kicks my butt out of the house. Quote
iamded Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Then again, accents would come to play here. So it may sound different with the same pronunciation and different accents. Or something. *wacko* :-P ~Peace Quote

Or something. *wacko* :-P ~Peace __________ No, my logic is undeniable and I hate you with a passion. Also you squeal like a girl :-P X-D But yes, I say "Mock" because it works, A-fol, is just weird and can be pronounced to many ways. Clearly Batbrick's mind has turned to mush! *wacko* Quote
prateek Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) I watching a vid on the lego channel on youtube and a lady was showing off her MOCs and she pronounced it "mok" so i thought to myself why is she pronouce it wrong since I say it as M.O.C. So after that I thought how about other people pronouce it. So how do you pronounce MOC? Edited March 4, 2009 by prateek Quote
Oky Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) I say "mok" because the process of creating a MOC is sometimes called "mocing", and that always sounds and looks like "mocking" (which is kinda funny if you think about it ). Therefore, I make the word "MOC" sound like "mock" too. Besides, it's shorter and easier to say this way. Edited March 4, 2009 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
General Armendariz Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I also say "mok" I dont know why I just do. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Even though it should be M.O.C., it's much easier just to say "Mock." Quote
Ricecracker Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 You might want to do a little searching before you post things like these. I remember this poll that Hinckley started a year ago. It's basically this but more. My answer would be MOC as in sock, and AFOL as in A doll. Hope this helps. Quote
Dadster Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 MOC rhymes with schmock. Schmock. Schmock. Schmock. Schmock. Quote

I remembered that poll as well and I did a search earlier too. but thats reaaaaaaaaaally old prateek, I have merged your topic with this, to continue the discussion since both topic agenda does not really have much difference in the intended discussion between both. This is to consolidate the discussion into one place and to minimise duplication in EB. In addition to the above point, no concrete discussion is too old as long it's still valid and current for the benefit of the community if there are values by adding your views in it. However, making a point in past LEGO news and themes about the release and discussion is an example of insignificant posting value. Hope that clarify. Thanks. Quote

Ricecracker Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Thanks Ricecracker. I remembered that poll as well and I did a search earlier too. Glad I could help, although I was afraid it might seem a bit like mini-moding . I'm glad you understand. Quote
Natman8000 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I pronounce it moo-caca-sha. Geddit? I pronounce AFOL A-ef-ol. Quote
