Hello all!

It's time for update!!! Now all the mechanisms are complete, connected and working! The body isn't complete yet but you can see the inner structure :) Electrical schematic is here too.

First post:

A long time ago i've watched a program about this machine on Discovery channel. I spent a few monthes to the first version, but unfortunately i've choosen too big scale and it was fatal mistake. It was tough decision but i completely destroyed it.

Now i started smaller version with all functions of the first one.

RC functions (total 11):

- moving

- two-dimensional tilting

- rotation

- two-stage boom management

- two-dimensional felling head management

- two pairs of claws

Manual functions:

- lights

- saw

I hope it will be successful!

Thanks for watching!

This is mind-boggling ... and definitely worthy of a spot in the Hall-Of-Fame

I disagree, but the new version might.

In future please make HOF suggestions in the HOF discussions topic.

Thanks for comments and interest!

I attempted to make a harvester a while back, however the final weight of the model was a problem.

Also because the boom was completely pneumatic it could not function very well.

Very complex model! It is always difficult to hide all this wires and hoses... Unfortunately it is hard to control pneumatic precisely. I plan to use actuators or maybe self-made "cylinders" from gear racks.

Have you tried to actually cut something with that blade? I can imagine it should be possible to cut through some foam-like material. That must be an awesome sight

No, but felling head is the only part of my model that isn't destroyed at this time, so maybe i'll try to do it in a near future )))

Very cool. There are a lot of problems I encountered while building my Feller. I hope this project continues.

You've done very compact and functional feller! I didn't seen such fellers in a real life but it is very cool! In the new version of my feller buncher i plan to use the same 9L saw blade!

The bottom part of new version is almost complete, i'll take a photo in the evening!

Awesome Looking forward to more progress

Thanks!

Today i have this:

The rear part is a bit bigger than i expected because i should place two BB and three receivers. But i've saved really good clearance - about 4.5 studs!!!

I am going to make a four suggestions, you probably will not like them but I will say them anyway.

1) Use the new style ink tracks, those old style are going to keep breaking on you.

2) the middle pivot is too high,I would try the smaller LA's.

Four geared down by a worm gear should have the power required.

3)Move those IR receivers....

4) Your pivot is off center.

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you are interesting in this project! So:

1. do you mean new tracks like in arctic 42038?

2. instead of first version, the turntable will be positioned not under the tower but AT THE TOP of it! All the tower will be constructed around the pivot and i hope it will tilts normally!

3. To what place? :) i really want to move receivers but now i don't see enough space...

4. it's optical illusion - the pivot is exactly at the centre! but in the real mashine it is shifted to the front!

interesting model, I would suggest using different new tracks or custom ones , as the old ones are to prone to falling apart. You could always make some foam trees out of foam insulation and fell them.

Yes the black tracks in the arctic set would be better.

Turn the receivers upside down and move them behind the L motor at the back?

I am not too sure if constructing the tower round the pivot will work very well.

Yes it will fix the height problem but the tower may hit the tracks.

I think there is a echo..... :look:

Thanks! Good idea of trees! But i'm not sure that with my new saw it will be possible to cut something :((

I've tested leveling system and tracks with 2kg extra load and seems all was fine! i think completely new chassis construction will discourage me from this project ))))

PS: i saw a few big MOCs with old tracks and at the first sight all was ok with them

Wow! Does everything function well?

Thanks! I understand that such a big mechanism has weak points but during 15-minutes video-session nothing was wrong. Maybe some problems will appear later, battery changing for instance :)

Very cool so far!

Doesn't that saw blade have a pinhole in the middle? How do you transfer power to rotate it? Just friction from a pin with friction ridges?

If the body works out as well, this will be a very nice model indeed!

Thanks! The saw blade is squeezed between two half-bushes and one of these half-bushes is a pulley for rubber-band.
