iliasus3243 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Hi! I bought slightly used EV3 basic kit (31313). Thought I go cheapass route, since I was afraid Im going to leave this toy to dust. But I love the kit! However my pack is missing some pieces. (got something like 595 pieces). I dont have any other legos anymore, mom sold them in yard sale like 15years ago :(. Then the question: What should I buy next to expand my possibilities? -Cheap Technic-lego packs from Black friday sales? -Some Mindstorm expansion pack? -Just some bluk pack of legos from ebay? URLS to guides, tips, suggestions welcome. :) Thank you in advance. Also, Im total noob with legos these days, be gentle! :D Quote
Freekysch Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Bulk packs of Technic parts are ok, but depending on what the pack contains. Also you can also use Bricklink for some specific parts. Quote
XAxles Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Depends on what you're gonna make. I suggest 42000 and either 8071, 8065 and 8068 to match the EV3's color palette. Quote
miguev Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I always thought buying sets is the cheapest way to get lots of parts, and Sheepo agrees, which I take as an authoritative confirmation Once you've got a few and you're finding yourself with "plenty of parts but still missing a few", then Bricklink is a great source to get exactly what you want. MajorAlvega Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 (edited) You said there are some missing pieces... if any important I'll go after it in bricklink. There are many projects on the net that can be made with just the basic kit, see for example this site: http://www.nxtprograms.com After you have some experience with the sensor and motors of the basic kit you might want more motors and perhaps different sensors but I would not spend much money, at least not while you're starting. Then you'll want some technic structural elements like gears, liftarms, pins. Small sets are a great way to collect these kind of pieces. And f you like tanks or bulldozers you might want the 42028 bulldozer, it's affordable and has plastic tank tracks (the rubber tracks from your kit are fine, just not so reallistic and with a fixed length). iliasus3243 Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 Wow! Great suggestions. Loved them all. Especially colour matching 80xx packs. :) Bigger packs like 42028,42000 and miguels suggestions are interesting. There seemed to even be some kind of radiocontroller in some packs. Now I need to start hunting bargains. Meantime Ill be browsing forums. Thanks for help everybody. :) Also bricklink seems to be great for replacing those few missing pieces... Quote
