ScotNick Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hey all! I know I haven't been very active in the forums (I think I've never been; I'm not that kind of person ), but I've always been busy building and redesigning some of my models. As I'll take a short break from Lego for half a year, because I'm really busy with school, I'll show you my latest works (or at least those I haven't shown on Eurobricks yet . Here they come: First of all a GER D56 (with dark blue livery) and the same engine with a later colour scheme and tender, classified as LNER / BR D16 And then a Bagnall 0-4-0ST, of which only two were produced A Hudswell Clarke Standard 0-6-0T An LBSCR E2 (some of you might remember this engine in a different livery ) My redesigned GWR 57xx I know this might not fit exactly here, but there are engines in the pic And then, one of my best designs: An LNER A3 known best for the world-famous engine Flying Scotsman 4472 Actually I have to admit, that the tender, chassis and cab are Carl Greatrix' design (because they fit the prototype so perfectly ) I found a new way to create a bigger (between 4W and 6W) boiler and wanted to try it out with this engien. Although it isn't perfectly round, I think it fits well enough! So only give me credit for the boiler and running plate, because the rest isn't really my work And finally, after so many British models, I present you my first design of an engine from my own country: a KKSTB 310 The 310 was built between 1911 and 1916 for the KKSTB (Imperial Royal Austrian State Railways) and reached a top speed of 100km/h or 60 mph. I also used my new boiler method for this model again Pacifics (4-6-2) were very common at that time so the 2-6-4 wheel arrangement was (and is) quite unusual, which gives the engine a distinctive look. The tender is too long in comparison to the prototype, but that's for the sake of having the engine motorized with 2 PF or 9V or motors. I will build this engine in real life, as it is my first engine which doesn't use uncommon parts in uncommon colours Furthermore I really love the design of this engine Also I'll use BBB XL wheels instead of the here shown L wheels from Lego. Paperballpark Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 They all look very nice! My main gripe with LDD/Ldraw models is that you've been able to use parts in colours that simply aren't available in real Lego. I also hate to think what would happen to your connecting rods if the trains were to move Quote

The real problem is not whether they exist or not, but how much they cost! And all the connection rods should work, I left enough room for all that. Furthermore I'll use Zephyrs custom connecting rods Quote
UrbanErwin Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Even though most of them are unbuildable due to money / parts availability issues, they look great Quote
James Mathis Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Fantastic designs. Very well executed and presented. All the best with your studies. James Quote
mostlytechnic Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Really like the creative part usage, like the hinge brick tops for steps on E2 and 57XX and others. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hey, how many Moc have you done? ;-) The first two pictures and the two last pictures are great models ...impressive work! Quote
Redimus Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I really like the A3, probably the best attempt I've seen that doesn't cheat. Can I be cheeky and ask for the LDD for that one? Quote
ScotNick Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) Thanks everyone! Really like the creative part usage, like the hinge brick tops for steps on E2 and 57XX and others. That's the thing I like most about digital designing: not only that I'm not limited with available parts, but I have all the parts and find out new ways to use different bricks. Hey, how many Moc have you done? ;-) The first two pictures and the two last pictures are great models ...impressive work! Haha, too many! Actually I just counted and realized I designed about 13 engines (all steam btw), a handful of cars and some modulars. But most files in my LDD folder consist of parts and many ways to use them, e.g. window techniques, tower building techniques... basically designs of different things with parts many haven't thought about before. In fact I like to find new ways to use parts just to make my buildings, designs etc. unique I really like the A3, probably the best attempt I've seen that doesn't cheat. Can I be cheeky and ask for the LDD for that one? As most of the design (everything but the boiler and running plate) has been published here before I won't hesitate to publish mine as well; I've attached it. zephyr1934 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I know this might not fit exactly here, but there are engines in the pic All of the engines look fantastic, with all sorts of clever tricks (no wonder you say that you have so many LDD files of just building ideas). As for the above picture, it is always neat to see the trains in context (though !@#$% that the brick bricks do not come in dark red as used in your viaduct). The buildings and road vehicles show as much attention to detail as your trains. I can't wait to see some of these in real brick. Well, most of the used parts exist or are easily substitutable. The real problem is not whether they exist or not, but how much they cost! And all the connection rods should work, I left enough room for all that. Furthermore I'll use Zephyrs custom connecting rods Well you know, thanks to Duq, you can build virtual rods too... That's the thing I like most about digital designing: not only that I'm not limited with available parts, but I have all the parts and find out new ways to use different bricks. That's what I like about virtual building, no need to dig out the parts (if you even have them) or put away all of the unused parts until you have the design nearly perfect (always something that needs fine tuning in actual bricks, but that is also part of the fun) Quote
Aaron Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 These are very nice. I especially like the interaction with the buildings. Very clean builds. Quote

The dark red brick brick will be in some 2015 sets, so it will be possible I've already heard about the virtual rods, but I normally work with LDD. I tried LDraw once (also with BBB wheels ) but the plates didn't always have the right distance, or interfered (especially when I was using snot, so that's my problem ) And yes, absolutely! Virtual building shows you more ways of doing something (although some techniques are not allowed in LDD ) These are very nice. I especially like the interaction with the buildings. Very clean builds. Thanks! As said, I'll add more buildings in the future Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 AWESOME digital designs there 'ScotNick'......please do return with more MOC's ! Brick On LDD On 'ScotNick' ! Quote

I tried LDraw once (also with BBB wheels ) but the plates didn't always have the right distance, or interfered (especially when I was using snot, so that's my problem ) From the quality of the renders I just assumed you were using LDraw, are you using something other than LDD to do the renders? detjensrobert Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Interesting wheel technique for the smaller driving wheels. Do they work or are they just placeholders? Quote
ScotNick Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 AWESOME digital designs there 'ScotNick'......please do return with more MOC's ! Brick On LDD On 'ScotNick' ! Thanks, I'll do that From the quality of the renders I just assumed you were using LDraw, are you using something other than LDD to do the renders? I use pov ray and the ldd to pov ray converter for the renders. Interesting wheel technique for the smaller driving wheels. Do they work or are they just placeholders? Actually they're just placeholders for BBB medium driving wheels, as they have the same size and diameter. Thy wouldn't actually work (as far as I know) Quote
