Younge Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 It would be nice if there was a special area on this forum where this kind of information - the upkeep and maintenance of older train-related equipment - could be easily tracked down for future reference. Quote

Rail Co Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Very good topic!! It would be nice if there was a special area on this forum where this kind of information - the upkeep and maintenance of older train-related equipment - could be easily tracked down for future reference. I believe that was originally what the "Train Tech"/"Train Tech Index" was for but I haven't seen it updated for awhile now! I think we should go and find all the posts with very helpful tutorials/ideas like this one to make a new sub-form "Train Maintence and How-To Guide" Sorry to go off topic! -RailCo Quote

Just a thought. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 That is actually a great idea. If there is someone willing to collect threads of "useful ideas". Perhaps even someone willing to collect and moderate the MOC index too. Even if only informally, it would be helpful. This forum used to have a moderator who did all of that work (and it is a lot of work), but we are moderatorless for the moment (not to downplay the fact that we have JopieK taking care of the most critical tasks, for whom we all should be thankful). I have no idea of the inner workings of EB, but simply having that information being cataloged in some manner would help the next moderator when they come along. Or there might be some way of updating the index periodically without a moderator (???) Quote
dr_spock Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I believe the indexes were last updated in Nov. 2013 by Fugazi. There is probably a year's worth of material to add. I have an idea of the inner workings of the Pirate section but not sure if Trains is different. A Train Regulator could help the moderator take care of the indexes, merge topics, change topic titles, etc. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted November 15, 2014 Eurobricks Emperor Posted November 15, 2014 Since we're off-topic anyway (I'll clean up this topic later), let me continue a bit. We do have a moderator who's keeping an eye on the discussions in the Train Tech forum, but what we don't have is a regulator maintaining the indexes. Would there be any candidates for such a role? Quote
peterab Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Would there be any candidates for such a role? In my mind zephyr1934 has the right mix of knowledge and involvement in train tech to make a good regulator if he's willing and has the time. Quote
dr_spock Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 I can help with the indexes if zephyr1934 isn't willing. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 I am flattered, thank you. Unfortunately I already have too much on my plate so I need to pass on this opportunity right now. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted November 16, 2014 Eurobricks Emperor Posted November 16, 2014 I've split this discussion from the one about repairing worn out contacts. Quote
Ashi Valkoinen Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Truly said, collecting topics manually will fail again and again, when the person or people doing it - free - become busy and they won't have time to do it anymore. The root of the problem - I think - is in the structure of eurobrick forums, we have the LEGO Train Tech section here, and all topics are just mixed here. There should be some sub-forums, like "MOC", "Set Reviews", "Events", "Maintance", "Softwares" and "Layout discussions", and maybe the larger ones like "MOC" with mmore subforums. It would be nice, if everyone had one topics for each subforum, not for every train, LDD-draw etc. Topics opened for every train MOC are almost impossible to find a couple of months later. I can remember lot of threads, pictures of great locos in my mind, but I can't check them again, because I can't remember for example the serial number of the MOC, written in the topic title. So if there are any volunteers, we should organise all Train Tech threads by some categories (mine above are just examples), and ask users to maintain their topics. Maybe moderators or site admins could even merge topics into each other, but I'm sure it will mess up some topics from the same user discussed paralel. Quote
