TheLegoNewbie Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Hello, I own the following trains 60051,7938 + 60052 and have just bought rechargeable battery packs for all. I have noticed that when I insert the rechargeable battery packs into the engine that the hole at the top for the power light can now not be seen. Just wondering if there were any guides where I can change the trains so that I can see the power lights? Thanks in advance. Cheers Quote
zephyr1934 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 We recently finished building 60052 in my house and I noticed the same problem. If you are using the rechargeable pack it should not be much of a problem. It will time out after an hour or so and turn itself off. You lose some power for the IR receiver but since it is rechargeable no big deal. You could probably rebuild it to make a gap to see the light without too much trouble, though I haven't attempted it. TheLegoNewbie Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Thanks zephyr I might give it a go when I get time. Quote
squizbricks Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Hi, I'm think about buying rechargeable battery packs for my trains. Is there a particular pack that fits? Quote
KlodsBrik Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 (edited) Now, im a n00b with trains myself. But you should surely add some more information on what your trains size is in studs. Searching for power function on the LEGO site, this is what's available. However this was the only rechargable set i could find. Edited April 21, 2016 by KlodsBrik Quote
marook Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Hi, I'm think about buying rechargeable battery packs for my trains. Is there a particular pack that fits? You can use rechargeable cells in all the standard battery packs from LEGO, use their own one, or find custom 9-10V cells and mod a PF connection cable to supply the PF system you use. If you wanna be 'pure', you only use LEGO battery packs, but who looks inside the models.. ;-) Quote

So the Rechargable battery pack (8878) is the same size as the non-rechargable one (88000) that comes in the set. Quote
gotoAndLego Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 (edited) Is there any way to hook up to a regular battery pack via Micro-USB? Can you change the lego battery box from USB? Edited April 22, 2016 by gotoAndLego Quote
justinwebb Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Not without lots of modification to the battery pack as you would need to introduce a charging circuit with protection. If you aren't experienced in this I would suggest against it as exploding batteries aren't much fun. Quote
dr_spock Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Is there any way to hook up to a regular battery pack via Micro-USB? Can you change the lego battery box from USB? USB is only 5V. You would have to add an up voltage converter between your USB and the LEGO rechargeable battery box. Quote
