Vanillaxx Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I will be going to New York in a couple of weeks and there I will be able to visit a lego store. I have a few questions that I hope you guys can help me out with: - Can I buy a brick separator there? My fingers are starting to hurt... -Is the 'pick a brick' wall worth the money? - If so, any things specifically you'd recommend? - Are there any items you can only buy in lego stores? Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (1) Yes, they do sell the brick separators individually. However, if you buy a large set, one could be included. (2) It depends on if the type of bricks you are looking for are there. If they are, then it sure beats the price of online PAB and could even net you more bricks for your money than Bricklink. The Rockefeller center store has a larger than average PAB bin, so the selection should be good. (3) I always hope for plates, windows, doors, and certain colors. 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, etc. bricks are good, especially if in a usable color. There are also a lot of other random parts that come up, some of which are very nice. Tiles are good too. (4) There are exclusive sets that are only available there. I think of some of the big ones like Tower Bridge, modulars, and others. Those I have only seen at the Lego Store, at least here in the US. Quote
62Bricks Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) As has been noted in other threads, the retail prices for sets at the LEGO stores in Manhattan are higher than at other stores. The PAB prices are the same as other stores, however, so that is still a good deal depending on the parts. The Rockefeller Plaza store is smaller in size than many other LEGO stores and is always crowded. The new Flatiron store is more roomy. This can make a difference if you're camped in front of the PAB wall for an hour or so filling cups. Edited November 14, 2014 by 62Bricks Quote
Jared Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Rockefeller is good for certain parts. They do also sell brick separators there. I remember on one of my trips to NYC I brought back a suitcase half-full with PAB cups because some of the pieces they carry are cheaper than BL. Edited November 14, 2014 by Jared Quote
mrbradford Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Brick separators are much cheaper on BrickLink. Quote

I found one in a junior set, the one with the construction scene: 10667 There's some exclusive merchandise in lego stores, like minifig icecube trays, various key chains, seasonal/festive mini sets,... Basically anything found in the online store should be available in a Lego store. What I would like to recommend is to check the online store first and make a list of things you really want to buy, especially for the merchandise items. This way you can avoid being overwhelmed and impulse buying :) Edited November 17, 2014 by Humdrum Quote
