Dinobrick Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) A recent attempt at creating a small semi, twenty three by six studs. I am happy with how the front came out. The cab is just big enough for a fully dressed minifig. The trailer has retractable support legs and an opening rear hatch. The cab can detach from the trailer and be a full vehicle in its own right (although it honestly is kinda ugly). It finally gave me an excuse to use that exhaust piece I've had laying around. Originally it was to be a typical flat nose, but those are very common semi MoCs, and I wanted to do something different, this design fits better with my vehicle style too. UPDATE: additional wheels to the rear section image by austindhinton95, on Flickr image by austindhinton95, on Flickr image by austindhinton95, on Flickr Edited October 30, 2014 by Dinobrick Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Interesting, neat use of SNOT.......though it's hard to see this in a regular city layout and the trailers wheels are a little too small as compared with the prime movers....plus it should have perhaps another set of them on the trailer ? Dinobrick Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) It's not ment to be a typical city vehicle, it's part of my "fan story". But I didn't know where to put it. EDIT: why wouldn't it, anyway? Just wondering. I did add a second set, I found the wheels I needed, just after I posted it. Edited October 29, 2014 by Dinobrick Quote
deraven Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I like the use of the hinge plates as support feet for the trailer. Nice. Quote
ER0L Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 The shaping is quite original, but I agree with LT that it looks un-Townish. It's rather something you'd expect to go with a Classic Space scene or something. My second point is that it can't be called a semi either. Wikipedia: "A semi-trailer is a trailer without a front axle. A large proportion of its weight is supported by a road tractor", which isn't the case here. There are quite a few semi trucks and trailers in the Town or City range: http://brickset.com/sets/3221-1 http://brickset.com/...R-Us-City-Truck http://brickset.com/...rand-Prix-Truck and some more And there are lots of mocists who actually build stuff like that, you may take a look at the truck groups on MOCpages and Flickr. Originally it was to be a typical flat nose, but those are very common semi MoCs, and I wanted to do something different, this design fits better with my vehicle style too. Among the examples shown above there are "flat nose" and "long nose" semitrailer trucks, the latter more common in the US. If you want to build more or less realistic semi trucks my advice would be to look for photos of what you have in mind and then try to build it in Lego. Another possibility is to take an existing truck and to modify it according to your own ideas (that's what I do from time to time). Anyhow welcome to the large Lego car and truck builder community and to EB, of course. Looking forward to your next vehicle! Quote
Dinobrick Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 Then could someone move the thread to si-fi and rename it space truck? Or preferably future truck? (As it's still used on earth). I'm not trying to be rude, but I'll say it again, is not ment to be "realistic", or "typical", but I wasn't sure if I should put it here, or in si-fi. Also, again not trying to be rude, semi is just a nicname for it, but I though "Magnus-5 all-terrain consumables and munitions transport" would be too long a title. Quote
Dinobrick Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) Thanks to who ever fixed the title! I owe you. And also thanks for moving it. Edited October 30, 2014 by Dinobrick Quote
