Sven F Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I don't know what to think about this set. Anything town related that is not police or fire themed is a huge refreshment for me, but I feel frustrated with this set as it includes a lot of different things, many of which I don't necessarily need or want. I really like the city BUS and the whole concept of a town square is nice but the cost is driven up by that huge crane which I have absolutely no need for. I wish the bus, crane and buildings were all sold separately. In comparison to previous, similar concepts, I much prefer the older sets called "city transport" and "town plan" - not sure how they compare cost-wise though. Quote

Of-course you have a point if you are going to use this set in a different way. Fo me since i am going to make my own City, i see every single element of this set will do the Job and will cover most of the sites...:) As for previous older sets i see this Town Square is better...just my opinion :) Edited October 23, 2014 by VintageLegoEra Quote
Alfadas Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Nice set, and I think this set is just perfect. It combines a few subthemes of City, and that is awesome. The crane is cool, and everything is awesome! Quote

jodawill Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 This set looks pretty ridiculous without a baseplate. The photo on the front of the box almost suggests that it does come with a road baseplate, which would have been great. As it is, in particular, that statue looks really lonely. Quote

There are many baseplate around as you can buy them for cheap so i dont see any problem Edited October 23, 2014 by VintageLegoEra Quote
LAKAbricks Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) A funny thing about this set is the statue. A statue like that looks like something that belongs on a square surrounded by old buildings, whereas these buildings have got a quite modern architecture. The statue would have been better with the City Corner's pizzeria which looks much more classic in its style. Otherwise a good set, though I also am counted to the persons who think the crane should not have been in the set. Otherwise I like the idea of sets like City Corner and Town Square - sets delivering buildings, street interior and vehicles to the life in town. And it's great with the busses. Way too long Lego City has been without public transport, except for the (mainly long-distance) trains. EDIT: spelling Edited October 23, 2014 by laka Quote
Jern92 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Any plans to modularise the build, with regards to the buildings? Quote

TheLazyChicken Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Finally a set review for the town square! I have been awaiting one for so long here on Eurobricks. Quote
paul_delahaye Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 For me The bus was a great addition The crane was oversized The road sweeper was a poor attempt, but we got a part in a new colour I could do with 3 more of the cycle shop to make a cool building And another pizza shop? Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) Bags 4 & 5: ( 3 Minifigures + The City Pizza Shop ) - The Minififures: * Well, To me these are normal Figures and nothing special about them. * The Pizza and the Blue Dish are new for me and i like them ! - The City Pizza Shop: * Front Side * Back Side * The Menu Board, Nice one! And here it is completed! %Welcome to City Pizza% -Extra Parts: * Nice to have sticks as Extra Remarks: - The Shop is simple in build but have a nice looking design. Reminds me of building a vintage sets!... - 2 Sitting Area which is cool. - Stickers are less and well matching the build Overall Rating: 9/10 ( due to simplicity of the build ) Edited October 26, 2014 by VintageLegoEra Quote
au_ag_plastic Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Hmm I'm surprised the Bus got a 10/10. I find that the Yellow Bus from 7641 more sturdy. The Red Bus seems to fall apart easily. Quote

NO need to be surprised because this is my own opinion Plus i dont have the 7641 set to compare with... Everyone has his own likes! Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) Bags 6 & 7: ( 1 Minifigure + Bike Shop ) - The Minifigure: * Love the Torso but the face is totally not my style!! -The Bike Shop: * Setting-Up The Foundation! * Interior Setup and Design * OHH MAN!!! Look at this, you will gain Extra Torsos, Head-Gears....Just AWESOME!! * The 1st Floor of this Shop is Done. Not much built to encounter, Very Simple but (For Me ) These Torsos and the Head Gears are indeed a deal! * The Foundation to 2nd Floor. Great Tiles Color Combo! * This Harley is so sharp and Sporty!... * The interior Look of the 2nd Floor. Love the idea how the bikes are attached to Wall! Done! Remarks: - The Building has a great design, but building experience is average due to simplicity of the parts needed to build it. - Having 2 Motor-Cycles, 2 Bikes, 2 Torsos and many Head Gears,,,Definitely will make you soo happy! - The Little Adv. Board 50% Off is nice and simple. I Enjoyed Building it and indeed a great addition to a City project ( IMO ) Overall rating: 9/10 Stay Tuned for the last section ( The Crane ) Regards! Alfadas Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Those Motors and bikes are indeed very useful! Really like the red one, the Harley? Don't know, but it looks very nice Quote

LAKAbricks Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 I also like the red motor bike a lot. Do you have a picture of the two motor bikes next to each other for comparison? Normally, I think the new motor bikes are too big (I am used to the ones from the 80s), but somehow the red one looks smaller than the green one - even though they have the same kind of frame. Quote

LAKAbricks Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Thanks, VintageLegoEra Hmmm... It's purely optical. When compared to each other, they reveal they have the same size. What a shame But I still think the design of the red motor bike is nice. The old motor bikes were definately smaller. Take a look at the bike seller in your picture below. The motor bikes reach the same height as the minifig's shoulders I know LEGO isn't to scale - but this is too much out of scale. Unfortunately. And thanks for sharing your pictures and review with us. It was needed. Despite some flaws, this is an important City set. Quote

Cheers mate,,,,,,,,indeed these 2 motors are same in size with different designs which made us to think one is bigger than the other!........... True i was up to mention the motor scale no-macthing the figure..this is indeed a big Flaw but compared to rest Excellent feature the set offers, this can be neglected You are most Welcome and i am indeed very happy to make this review Quote
knight_40k Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) My girlfriend and I bought the bike shop and pizzeria from this set on ebay NIB. The guy was selling each bag separately and we only wanted the two buildings for our city. They were very fun to build and have nice detail. I would recommend this set. Nice to see a review.
