I bought Benny's Spaceship³ this May and built it sometime during the summer.

I mainly have it up on display, but of course I tested the various functions. Those spring loaded launchers deliver quite some force *oh2* .

So my question is: Do I have to fear any damage to the launchers if I leave the 'missiles' in over looong periods of time? The springs apparently are quite forceful, so I'm kinda afraid that at some point the launchers will suffer some damage (i.e. cracking).

I'd rather have them in their place so they won't get lost.

Doubt it will crack but I imagine the spring will lose some of its spring power the longer it is left compressed. FYI my Spaceship (x3) has been sitting cocked since June I believe- no cracks yet.

I keep the missiles out, although the wings in that particular set won't fold in the whole way if the missiles are not fully in. The launchers don't crack, but their springs do lose some force over time if the missiles are kept in for long periods. I have some old launchers from the late 90s that have that issue.

Any time I get LEGO parts that are spring loaded, are under tension, or have track tread (1st gen. Arctic, City conveyor belts, etc) that can be stretched, deformed, or develop flat spots I alway leave them where those forces are at their minimal. Good practice for LEGO as well as other things, locking pliers, bike derailleurs, etc :classic:

i just took all my shooters out after reading this thread, i never even thought of the springs losing tension! i just put all the ones i had in my drawer with my spares.

I understand your fears, I have lost several transformer springs due to leaving the ammo in for too long, however, I have my missile in the proton cannon for prolonged periods, and it still fires fine. But be careful with flick fires, as they can get lose over time, due to repetitive firings.
