Bmwlegolover Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Howdy guys, I posted here about two years or so ago and I have recently discovered my lego love again. I am back now and see the forums have changed, I have been 'demoted', lol, but I see a lot of quality posts on here. The new lego city sets are amazing. I love the new trucks and vehicles, especially the container loader and dump truck. Anyway, I present to you my latest MOC. A small ship, a made-up river/canal boat. A shot with a minifig for reference: The rail inspection SUV on the boat : The rear: Thanks for looking. Comments/suggestions welcome. Quote
Hinckley Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Hey BMW-L2! Welcome back to EuroBricks and thanks for sharing your awesome creation with us! I'm not a fan of 4-wide cars but your RR vehicle is awesome! You snuck in quite a lot of detail. I really like it. The model all together is very well done. Growing up near some canals (I & M, Cal-sag) I've seen many boats like this one. It's an excellent representation of the real thing. I specifically like the chain railing. Thanks again! Quote
Darth_Legois Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 (edited) Nice i especialy like the suv *wub* luckily i like 4-wide cars *y* anyway nice moc i love it *wub* edit: also i made a police suv similar to yours but i cant post it cos my digital camera is get repaired *n* Edited June 28, 2007 by Darth_Legois_619 Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I posted here about two years or so ago and I have recently discovered my lego love again. I am back now and see the forums have changed, I have been 'demoted', lol That might have been back during an early phase of the website when everything was reset. Anyway it's nice to have you back! I really like this ship, I feel that cargo ships are fairly underrepresented as far as MOCs go. I don't know what parts and pieces you have available to you, so I'll guess that the Pirate hulls were all you had? They look kind of strange, wood hulls for an industrial freighter :-D You could always try some brick-built hulls. Overall I love the designs, though they are a tiny bit blocky. The coloring is really nice, and I LOVE those vehicles! I can't really see that well, how is the car secured? I see something red but...beyond that can't make it out. Also, you may (or may not, it's all a matter of preference) want to try tiling the surface to give it a more finished look. Overall this is really nice, and I can't wait to see you post some more stuff! Quote
Siegfried Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 That is an interesting use of that hull. It works a lot better than I though it would. I love your rail inspection SUV. I want to make something similar but I haven't got any of the small rail wheels. The only thing I don't like is the back of the ship. Also, you may (or may not, it's all a matter of preference) want to try tiling the surface to give it a more finished look. Personally I prefer the studded look. It is supposed to be lego after all. But as you say, some prefer it, some don't. Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 I like the design of the ship. It reminds of the new harbor ship. 10.314/10 Quote
Asuka Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 A great and neat MOC all the way! *y* The brown hull works surprisingly well with the red, white and black, and the bridge is plain beautiful, especially the rear part of it. Is there any interior? And that SUV is really ingenious, what a good idea! :'-) But, perhaps, some kind of hatch in the deck could be a nice addition.... Quote
Bmwlegolover Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 (edited) Thanks for the kind words guys. hinckley39: I too like the larger wide cars but the 4-wide vehicles have a nice classic look to them. Starwars4J: I do have some other pieces I could have used for the hull, but I kind of like the look. I wanted a ship fairly quick for a harbor I have planned, so I did not want to use the extra pieces and spend the time designing/making a brick hull. The SUV is secured with red 1x1 slopes. This temporary and I am thinking of building a flat-rack container for it. Asuka: The bridge does have a full interior, along with a grey ladder you can see through the slanted stern window(can't see it in the pics) which leads down a small hall to the deck door. I will post some better pics. I thought about a hatch and still might do one near the bow, but I need a way to mount it without obvious bricks all over and it can needs to operate smoothly. Thanks for the complements on my rail SUV, I like that design a lot and have built a similar black civilian one and a red pickup based on it. Edited June 28, 2007 by Bmwlegolover Quote

zouave Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Nice moc. It reminds me of a mini oil tanker or that jurrasic park river boat. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted June 29, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted June 29, 2007 (edited) Welcome back! This ship really has the right looks for a river/canal boat. I never considered using these hull pieces for a ship like this, but the result is quite good. I agree with SW4J that the brown in the hull is a bit strange, but lets think of it as being iron with brown paint (i.s.o. wood) ;-) Edited June 29, 2007 by bonaparte Quote
oo7 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 It's good to have you back, Mr. Bmw! This is truly a wonderful MOC, the nautical aspects of the town and city themes have always been my favorite. I like the Pirate Hull on this one, it makes it look like an older ship, perhaps from the 1940s. The (really nice) SUV counteracts that, however. I like the amount of detail you've attended to, it's very well done. The two guys in suits guarding that container is absolutely hilarious! :-D Part of the reason it's so funny is because it's so unobtrusive back there, two small guys just standing there.....heh.....I just watched Mission Impossible 3 for the first time yesterday. :-P What's your flickr username, by the way? Bmwlegolover Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 Thanks again for the nice comments. I was trying out the red/brown hull as a canal boat. I like how it turned out, and plus it saves a lot of bricks. I have seem to forgotten my flickr user name and passord and I cannot remember my "secert question." lol As soon as I remember it I will post its address. I am also finishing up a 6-wheeled crane that I will post up in a bit. Quote
