snowvictim Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Hi! Back again with another MOC. Now let me just state this in advance - I was messing about with 6 axles and then I decided to build the UP freight. I forgot to change the wheels so what I have is a GP38-styled engine with 6 axles. Yes, it's weird, but I'm substituting the 3 axle bogies with normal 2 axle ones in the actual build. Ordered most of the parts today, the stores I usually buy from didn't have a few minor pieces. Might have those lying around somewhere so I'll wait before I order them. One more important thing - I take no credit for the DHL wagon. I found a picture of it on Google, therefore this is not my creation. I simply replicated it. The GP38-style engine is my own work. Enjoy! Quote
ManInATopHat Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Cool, I dig the DHL logo, the letters look very nicely flowing. Quote
snowvictim Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 Small bonus, I was feeling creative. Quote
Commander Wolf Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Blasphemy... 'Murrika can't into two axle cars! Nice logos though. Edited October 16, 2014 by Commander Wolf Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Beautiful freight! The DHL wagons are very cool! Great train! Quote
Redimus Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Are the buffers/couplings attached to the loco of the bogies? You may find problems going round corners if it's attached to the loco it's self. You best bet would be to copy the Maersk loco's set up of having the lower portion of the steps and the buffer beam attached to the bogies. Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Nice engine work, cool freight containers.....so realistic, I hope you might consider brick building them .......Brick On LDD On 'snowvictim' ! Quote
snowvictim Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Thanks! :) Are the buffers/couplings attached to the loco of the bogies? The actual one I'm building will have the buffers attached to the bogies. Blasphemy... 'Murrika can't into two axle cars! Nice logos though. I know, I know. Might change that, haven't decided yet. It saves up on parts if I do two axle cars. Besides, I want this to be a VERY long freight train (parts will have to come from those rip-off bulk sellers...) and less wheels equals less friction. The train will be brick built in parallel with my other MOC, the Southern Pacific inspired GP38. :) Edited October 16, 2014 by snowvictim Quote
dr_spock Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 The FedEx looks nice. You can save on wheels and couplers by making articulated flat cars with shared single axle bogies like the Talgo train set. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Some interesting trains there. Though in the current build the cab looks more like a CF7 (in the 1970's ATSF converted more than 200 F7's to road switchers). Quote

Besides, I want this to be a VERY long freight train (parts will have to come from those rip-off bulk sellers...) and less wheels equals less friction. Everything else equal, this is true, but a two-axle car with the axles very apart (ie 10+ studs) will have more rolling resistance through turns than a four-axle car with two sets of two axles very close together (ie in bogies). You can save on wheels and couplers by making articulated flat cars with shared single axle bogies like the Talgo train set. This is the proper 'Murrikan way to do it; pretty much all American container trains are made up of articulated double-stacks. Quote
snowvictim Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Like the TTX Intermodal, yeah. Mind you, I've ordered 5 TTX Intermodal sets for a total of 208 Euro (includes shipping). That was a bargain. I'll be incorporating them into this set. As for the inaccuracies in the GP-38, I know. But I never built genuine replicas of real life models; my versions are always different than the original that I use as a guide. I think incorporating your own ideas into a model is what's most beautiful about model making - it's your ability to change anything anyway you want it. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Definitely agreed, the nice thing about lego is that you can make it anything you want. Quote
snowvictim Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 I might raise the yellow on the bricks by one layer. At this moment the grey seems to dominat the upper half of the engine. Quote
