ScotNick Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Hi there! I normally post in the train tech section, so I'm not really known here. So just recently I made modifications to some Lego sets, and thought it would be interesting to let you guess the set I remade. I will post larger images if you guess correctly or don't know the set, and if you guys are interested I'll keep the thread running with newly remade sets. There is one rule I stuck to in order to make it easier for you and to keep the spirit of the real Lego set: I tried to keep the style of the buildings/cars, but changed the design a little bit to more modern standards, added some details, made it more realistic...etc So here is a small section of the picture to start with: Happy guessing ~Nick Quote
L@go Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Well, based on the colour of the gas pump and the car, I'd say this is probably 10184 Town Plan :) I like the updates I can spot, though - I've updated a few sets (well, not really, the project is growing out of hand) myself - even if those sets are generally older than the Town Plan - so I like your thinking. Looking forward to seeing the finished thing! Quote
tman684 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Town Plan! I remember going to the Lego store for the first time and buying that back in 2009! Hope to see the rest of the model soon! That portion of the car looks amazing! Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Yep, too easy the Octan gas station from Town Plan. Quote

It was definitely too easy, I have to make it harder Well here is the original image: The remade gas pumps and car And the gas station itself: I didn't change the design of the gas station very much, I just made it modular and changed the design of the gas pumps and cars. When remaking this (and other sets) I had some ideas in mind: The buildings should be adapted to fit with the other modular buildings They should be more detailed I like 6 wide cars, so I make everything 6 wide (again more realism) and a VERY important point was, that the additionally used parts wouldn't be too expensive to acquire, to make it easier to change a normal building into a modular one, or if you had two kinds of this set you wouldn't need much more parts I already have a modular design of the town hall and movie theatre from the town plan, but thy need to be rendered first. Also on my list of buildings to convert to modular ones are the Model Town House, Medieval Market, Diagon Alley (especially the Gringotts Bank building), the Arkham Asylum and more... Comments are always welcome ~ Nick Edited October 16, 2014 by ScotNick Quote
tman684 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I've already converted my Town Hall and Movie Theater into 16x32 modulars, so they're thin like Market Street. The gas station I haven't done anything with, since gas stations are usually stand-alone buildings. Quote
Mestari Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Great work there :) Would you mind telling how did you learn to use those black hoses in MLCad? I have big difficulties in making this twist... Do you have some good tutorial to read that you could recommend? Unless this is not MLCad at all... Quote

But I used LDD so... sorry Anyway I rendered the whole town layout and here is the result: Any suggestions what to improve? Quote
ItsaBRICKS Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I would have a bigger roof on the Town Hall, but that's just my personal preference. Great job! Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I the six wide conversions 'ScotNick', plus great modular redo's of the buildings from Town Plan.......Brick On ! Quote
tman684 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Do you have a fire escape door on the back of the theater? I always include those when I build theaters Quote
