Black-Build Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) I like the buggy but I'm not a big fan of all those custom pieces in this moc... I'm not a purist but I think that before all this printed stuff people were more creative. Sheepo makes realistic lego disc breakes, but I won't be suprised if somebody out there will print special pieces for that. You don't have that ''WOW look at those clever disc breakes'' effect any more but just that ''oh, he used some 3D printed pieces for that'' effect. For me it isn't challenging any more. efferman Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) look at this video A lego turntable, even with the two turntable method, would collapse before the frame would twist like this, so i have to build much stronger than before. is this taking a shortcut? Boxerlego Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Looks Good! A lego turntable, even with the two turntable method, would collapse before the frame would twist like this, so i have to build much stronger than before. is this taking a shortcut? You probably need a heavier counter weight there on the crane to off set that. Quote
efferman Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 With more than 1kg on 60cm outreach i would need at minimum the same weight as counterweight to compensate that and this is no option. Quote
Black-Build Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Turntables are OK, I am talking about the custom springs and 5l links. Quote
miguev Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Off course they would not! but if you create I nice linkage and connect it with rubber bands you can come very close to. Plus, who said we necessary need to imitate or come closer to those "inverted springs"?? According to your way of thinking we shoudl use real OHLINS shock absorber in our mocs...just because they are the best in world! I think we should take the challange of building what we can with what we have....... otherwise imagine if a RC model maker uses some LEGO parts in his world. LEGO is LEGO, then there is the rest....why do we mix them? No hard feelings my friends.. Thanks for the idea about linkage, should try that one day. I think we should take the challenge we want to take, after all this is a hobby. And I think it's OK for each one of use to expand "what we have" however we fancy and can :) Maybe one day people will find a way to build something close to OHLINS shock absorbers, I'm sure that will be fun to witness. As a kid, I used to dream of "a way to create parts of any shape I like, without using things like a lathe... and with 3D printer I'm pretty happy with how close to my dream they got, I just wish I had time to use them now :D Quote
z3_2drive Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 The custom springs weren't necessary for this build-he was just testing as opposed to using normal soft Lego springs. Now, if he wanted some coils for a truck suspension where they could compress and stretch, what strong, practical Lego solution would you suggest? (Not a bunch of rubber bands). I also wouldn't like it if everyone simply printed quick solutions, but it would be nice to encourage Lego to make a model with similar new pieces where a purist solution simply doesn't exist. Quote

Yeah, That's what I mean! Quote
