So I've always liked Lego, but never quite liked the open-backed designs of most of the sets. I absolutely love the modular buildings for this reason, as well as things like the Haunted House and the Simpsons House. But just wondering, what other sets out there have proper backs? I'm slowly building a city, and I'd much rather get complete buildings from LEGO rather than MOC-ing them because being in NZ, there are no pick-a-brick stores around, which makes the costs of loose bricks relatively higher. Or are there buildings that could easily be made whole with 2 copies of the same set put together?

I think the Friends house 3315 can be easily made in into a full house with 2 copies.

No experience yet with this one.

Working on an 10937 myself, transforming it to an 16 wide model with a closed back, and a minimum of additional parts.

Yes, 2 copies of, for example "Bike Shop & Café" would yield buildings with backs. Especially when they come with hinges to make them closed anyway - with 2 sets you could simply take away the hinges and add another floor quite easily.

I like both, so I don't have a lot of input. My childhood had open backed sets. The modulars look great for display, but it is hard for play, so I keep a lot of things open backed. I've considered using open back designs on all of the modulars since I never see the back of them. Just some slight modding here and there. And then it frees up a lot of other bricks for other projects..hmmm

Besides the modulars and Creator sets, I don't recall many other buildings with closed backs. Oh... The 10193 Medieval Market Village and the 3739 Blacksmith Shop. Though they are not for sale anymore, so they have to be bought second-hand.

Like Lightningtiger, I also prefer open-back buildings, and I also consider changing the few modular buildings, I have, into open-backs, just like TheLegoDr.

But does it have the 1 x x tiles with studs on end that typically make up the top of each storey in modular buildings? Just wondering, because I've never bought that set before. I don't mind hinges, because in a sense they can be shut to create a building with a back, like the Haunted House.

My childhood had a couple of open-backed sets too, but even as a kid I didn't like them and modded them into buildings with proper backs. maybe I'm just slightly OCD that way...

Most of the creator houses do, I believe.

Oh, I was never quite sure about them, because the boxes don't show backs. But that's great, I can get them for a suburb in my city :D

Oh yes, it does look like it could. I'll need more bricks to make up the walls, and a staircase, but shouldn't be too hard to find.

It depends on what kind of buildings that you want.

All of the recent Creator houses and cabins are complete buildings

although this one is terrible value at RRP

you would need 2 of them to make a decent Family House.

Here are a selection where 2 of each should make a decent building.

Thanks for the links! I have to admit that the riding camp and Olivia's house caught my eye immediately. I want buildings that could be part of a town layout without looking incredibly out of place, like say, a space station, so these are good. Mostly, I'm looking for houses, or shops, or even municipal buildings that could be placed along with modulars in a city (but probably not side by side, or the difference in size would look odd.
