Hey Guys, I recently got a Metroliner in the mail, The box is in an extremely dented, and teared. The flap is the main thing I want to repair as it is completely torn off. I was wondering if anyone had any experience pressing/flattening box pieces and also repairing boxes.

There are pictures on my flickr I am sorry I was crunched for time so I am using my phone!

Thanks guys!

Repair it from the inside. Take a box of similar size, preferably a modern day lego box and cut the side flap off including the hinge and some extra part of the box where the side flap attaches. I'd make the extra you are going to use to attach it to the box, at least the same size of the box side flap you are fixing. Glue/tape that extra piece inside the box and then adhere the broken flap you have to the fully functional replacement. Like the previous poster mentioned, tape really isn't permanent and discolors. If you use glue, I'd go with something that wouldn't soak through and ruin the box on the outside, so something thick like normal white paper glue.

Some basic cardboard conservation videos I found. I think merely reattaching your flap/hinge will eventually fail if you plan on using it. You could permanently glue it and then open the other side. Best to just replace the hinge if you want it to be functional. Research board game box repair and or Lionel Train box repair.

"I use archival quality self-adhesive linen hinging tape. Its main use is hinging window mats to mounting mat as well as hinging prints and posters. It is also used for reinforcing folders, books and envelopes. It is perfect for reinforcing hinges and/or re-attaching flaps."
