gylman Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 OK, I have a question about this. It seems to me that the annoucement that a set is now available for purchase on S@H, or is found in stores, is separate from the information about a new upcoming set that we have pics of, or advance news about something that will come next year, or Toyfair pics, etc. Simplying appending a "now available at S@H" post to the previous 198 posts on a topic which began 6 months earlier with the initial discovery of the set makes it likely to be ignored or missed by people who are actually interested in the fact that they can buy the set now. I would suggest that we have a topic, pinned, entitled "new arrivals", or "sets newly available", or something like that, into which only a single announcement woudl be made (no comments or bitching about price, etc) that a set is now available in some part of the world. That way, any new post into that topic would mean that there is something newly available. Since most of us, I believe, scan the forums by checking new posts, it would be useful information. We can even make a standard format for announcements: Set: xxxxx link to picture: xxxxx now available at: xxxxxx cost: xxxxx (if appropriate) It doesn't have to be only S@H, it can be sales, promo sets, whatever. We can flesh this idea out if there is any interest.

Thats a great idea Gylman Im never sure whether to put this kind of stuff in news, buy trade or into the theme topic. it would also be easy to check without having to scan all areas

gylman Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 It's done http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=10116 Hopefully if people find this useful, one of the admins will pin it. It worked just the way I expected.... I saw a new message in the thread, clicked on the link, and learned about a new release or sale. I think the postings - one of a preorder, one of pretty good sale item, are appropriate. No spam so far. I'd love to have admin power for that thread to clean it up a bit if necesary. The other problem I see is that if one person posts a news item, and then has another news item the next day, and no one has posted in betwen, then attempting to post a second news item will not create a new message, but only add to the previous one by the same user, and hence there will be no "new post" for people to notice. Minor issue, though.
