Brickelodeon Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Hey guys. I'm a brickfilmer who is currently in production of a western film. I have a lot of western pieces, but I would like some more. What would you say are some of the most essential LEGO western pieces? Anything helps. Quote
Lancethecat Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 See if you can find any Lone Ranger sets at your local store. The theme was discontinued at the beginning of the year, but there may still be a few sets somewhere out in the wild. You'll probably want to pick up a couple of Comanche Camps if you're planning on building an Indian village, and the Constitution Train is a must-buy. Quote
Brickelodeon Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 If only I had a time machine to go back to when the Lone Rangers sets were out. Darn it. Quote
gedren_y Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Amazon has the Lone Ranger sets in stock. Once the actual Amazon stock runs out, you will have to pay the markup for the discontinued sets. Quote
Darkdragon Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Lone Ranger sets are a lot more affordable than classic western sets. You can still find them onine and (rarely) in some stores. You might try searching walmart and target online stores as well as amazon and bricklink. Even ebay can work. The key is to know what the MSRP is for the set you want and how much you are willing to spend. Luckily, LR didn't do so well so the markup on small sets will be minimal. Generally speaking, you want lots of western people, guns, that sorta thing. As far as bricks/parts, lots of browns and tans (including the various shades) and greys for rocks. Don't let yourself be stifled by what you "should" have though, keep in mind you can make your western town world whatever you want it to be. There were lots of painted buildings back then, we just don't see them now because paint comes off in 100+ years For some inspiration, look up the TV show Brisco County Jr. Quote
Steph 104th Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 A small set to get is a Lego movie set 70800-Getaway Glider, it comes with a horse a sherif and a deputy, 'Bank' stickers and a few other western components for $12. Quote
Slurpifier Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I myself pondered the same question. A couple of weeks ago I managed to pick up the whole Lone Ranger line (picking up six cavalry army builder sets) I also managed to bricklink many pieces and minifigures that I needed. If your local toy stores don't have any Western based sets, I would consider bricklinking many minifigures and parts. Quote
Wat Tambor Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 For minifigs bricklink is the best choice. There are quite a lot Lone Ranger minifigs for quite a cheap price compared to other licensed LEGO theme minifigs. Quote
Brickelodeon Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 I ended up buying the "getaway glider" set suggested by Steph 104th. I also ordered 40 tan 6 x 4 plates, 3 bottles (for the saloon), 100 modified brown 2 x 1 bricks, 20 goblets (again for the saloon), and a Dan Reid minifigure off of bricklink. I also got a "Calamity Drone" minifigure, hoping that I would be able to change the robot face for a normal face. I already have a ton of guns from other sets and bricklink orders, so I should be good to go in that area. My brother is letting me use his vast array of horses, so hopefully I won't be lacking there either. Thanks for all of your help guys! Quote
nine09nueve Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Sounds good Brickelodeon - Jeddy and Daddy will definitely be buying tickets to see that movie! (hopefully it will be little guy friendly?!) Quote
Brickelodeon Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 Don't worry. I never use language stronger than "darn" or rarely "crap" in my films. Quote
Lancethecat Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Speaking of The LEGO Movie, Creative Ambush includes a saloon biplane with barstools, bottles, shutters, a "Saloon" sticker, lots of brown parts, and two western minifigures. And you can get the Colby City Showdown and Silver Mine Shootout from the Lone Ranger theme for just under retail price on Amazon right now. Quote
Brickelodeon Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 That would definitely be a good idea, but I don't think that it would be worth it to get those few parts. Quote
