jFox Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I was looking at BrickLinking some older sets, and one part stood out: the Technic Rack Winder Axle, BrickLink part 200. The price on this little thing is crazy, but then I figured it's old, suppy and demand, etc. However, I noticed that there is also the Technic Rack Winder Complete Assembly, part 2426, containing that same gear, for a fraction of the cost. Average price for the complete assembly? Under a buck. Average price for the gear alone? Over six dollars! So my question is, what's the reason for the huge gap in price? I'm leaning toward just getting the complete assembly (which the set requires anyway), but I have no experience with this part before. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Quote
Mr Greeble Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 just a wild guess, but maybe you have to break the larger part to get the axle? Quote
jFox Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 Yeah, I've considered that. In pictures of the complete assembly you can see a line around the edge of it, which could be where two halves came together in the molding process. Quote
Blakbird Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 The same holds true of lots of sub-assemblies. For example, there is technically a part number for just the spring and piston of a shock absorber, but almost nobody sells them. It is much cheaper to just buy the whole shock and take it apart yourself. Quote
