Paul B Technic Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I have just found these ads while doing some searching. Do you feel they are appropriate or not? http://thisisnotadvertising.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/legodrugs.jpg http://thisisnotadvertising.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/legosex.jpg http://thisisnotadvertising.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/legoviolence-1.jpg Quote
legotrainfan Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Are those really ads that were created by TLC? Or are they fakes? Quote
m0dulo Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) They are clearly inappropriate (to be authentic LEGO ads) and fake. Edited September 25, 2014 by m0dulo Quote
MECHALEX Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Looks like an unused advert concept, maybe a student created them? On one hand, I like provocative imagery. On the other hand, I think the designer has simply noted the similarity between the pixel mosaic effect of censorship and a mosaic of bricks and added a very cursory tagline suggesting that TV is a corrupting influence on children and Lego is not. Personally I think it's a bit clumsy. That said, I don't think the fundamental message is inappropriate, it's simply expressing a view. Using the Lego logo when the bricks are clearly not Lego muddies the issue though. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Can't be official LEGO ads at all. Quote
Gnac Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Perhaps recent events have convinced a few folk that TLG are fair game to use as a scapegoat / conduit to push certain issues. There's no way this is sanctioned, and I doubt it would even prompt an official comment unless it became viral. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 These are pretty old actually, by a few years. As for recent development? Go look up LEGO art on Wikipedia! Those 'ads' were some pretty lazy student efforts. Quote

Those 'ads' were some pretty lazy student efforts. HAH, this is what I get for being too flabbergastered to look it up. I'm not suuuure I want to do the other thing, though. There was a header pic for a blogpost recently regarding the new "Elves" theme, which was deemed "too sexy for LEGO". I did a reverse image search, and found that more than just the company logo had been edited. I actually like TLG's passive approach to internet drama; I think they're on the right side of the line when it comes to being seen as obsessive and protective. They have a healthy (even encouraging) attitude towards parody, but some folk seem to see this as an indication that they are fair game for scapegoating. Edited September 25, 2014 by Gnac Quote
TheLegoDr Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I thought the first one was going to relate AFOLs to drug addicts needing their next fix. Because buying LEGO sure feels like an addiction at times. But in reality, they would have needed a few LEGO bricks in the background probably. Maybe a LEGO made gun or something to make it "official." Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Definitely fake. Many companies try to give bad image to Lego since they r top notch toy company..... Quote
ResIpsaLoquitur Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 If you want to see shocking ads, look up "Wilkins Coffee" to see an early version of Kermit the Frog shooting people. No, they're real. Quote
Jared Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Fantastic advertisements! Get straight to the point, and are brutally honest! Quote
