There's always a lot of speculation and buzz around future sets, but generally, with the release of new waves we can expect Lego to retire current sets. We don't want to miss out on sets now, do we?

Anyone have any predictions on what sets would retire next? Death Star and the R2-D2 sets aside, I think the X-Wing (9493) has the longest production cycle so far. Heck, Darth Maul is on the box art. I predict that this set could retire soon (around the release of the winter wave). What are your thoughts?

Also keep in mind that we could see an X-Wing in Star Wars Rebels and we will surely see an X-Wing in Episode 7, but given that, wouldn't you think that Lego would finally retire 9493 to make a Rebels or Episode 7 variant? Now I'd imagine that a Rebels variant would look very close to an OT X-Wing, so I guess an Episode 7 X-Wing, which is said to look different, would make more sense.

Another set that's had a good production run is the Millennium Falcon, but I don't see that set being retired just yet. There isn't anything in the winter wave that we've seen yet that can take the Millennium Falcon's spot. But then again, there have been rumors of a Millennium Falcon UCS set, and that could mean an end for the system scale version, though I'd be surprised if it got retired before next summer. However, the Falcon is going to appear in Episode 7 and I don't think we should expect it to look different (maybe more detailed). In that case, it may be worth keeping the current system scale version around a good while longer since it is a staple ship in Star Wars lore.

I got the biggest scare for Executor when I saw it retired on US shop@home so I went for it first, after 3 years delaying that purchase. It's a heck of an expensive set, so I grabbed the first opportunity when it went on sale here in the Netherlands. That is the prime candidate for retirement.

When it comes to X-wing or MF, these are trademark ships, TLG is not going to retire them without worthy successors. Even 6212 went on forever and got retired only shortly before 9493 was launched. I'd wager TLG would sooner retire the UCS X-wing than the playset one, it's all about revenue.

Similar reasons why I doubt that DS is going anywhere any time soon. How to put it... I got out of my dark ages when I (for good ol' times sake) walked into a Lego store in Koln. I was looking around and then I saw it and that was it... Love at first sight. 419e?! Blast it, this thing will be mine. It was the biggest WOW factor I experienced in a while, and I doubt that TLG is anywhere near to reproduce it. They will keep their superstar flagship, I simply don't believe they would retire it before a new Episode-VII celebrity hits the new generation...

As for MF, same thing. The playset will be around until they come up with the new UCS IMHO. Which, I'd say, will come nowhere near to the Legend, but would rather be in X-Wing price- and piece- range.

Rancor Pit will probably retire, remaining CW sets almost definitely. Next, 2013 sets, Gunship is not as memorable & is quite expensive etc.

So to put it in order as I see it: Executor, X-wing UCS, Rancor Pit, CW remaining sets, Gunship.

The Falcon is in Episode VII......and the current Falcon has been around for +-3 years.

Good chance it'll retire this winter or next summer......and then in the winter 2015 wave a new version is released.

I also hope the Death Star will retire.....so Cloud City can take it's place!
