Full Version: LEGO Batman (Or lack of)

Don't know if anyone's already posted something like this before, I apologise if they have.

But seriously guys, where has all the Batman LEGO gone? The range has only been out for a year or two, and already the sets are incredibly rare! None on the LEGO website at all, and everything's ridiculously expensive on Bricklink.

Why has TLC stopped distributing them? Don't know of any one knows, I just wanted to vent!

Cheers default_classic.gif

I believe the LEGO Batman line has been cancelled, and TLC isn't renewing the license. Which is a shame, because I enjoyed the sets (and the video game) quite a bit. default_sad.gif
The Penguin
Indeed, it has been officially announced that there will be no more LEGO Batman sets. default_hmpfbad.gif default_cry4.gif
We all loved Bats so much! default_cry4.gif After the great (I mean it) videogame there were still plenty of characters to make.... Gordon, Mad Hatter, Ras', Man-Bat, etc.... Now we won't be seeing it.... default_hmpfbad.gif

Personally for me, it was quite an unpleasant news. it's always a shame when a line is closed, when there's still lots potential in it.... //// default_sceptic.gif
jobiwonkinosi
WHAT?! That's ridiculous!
Why did they stop it? Especially when there was so many possible new ideas and concepts after the game! It was the game that got me interested in the sets!
Thats really disappointing, looks like I won't be getting much Batman stuff then. Ah well, might be trawling Bricklink.

Thanks for the replies guys! BUT WHY?! default_sing.gif
Patriot720
This has always puzzled me as well default_sceptic.gif
Why did they cancel Lego Batman?
Was it not selling well or were there more complicated reasons involved?
The Brick Rat
Matt, the head honcho over at the 'Legions of Gotham' website contacted TLC about the future of the Batman line a while back and posted this:

QUOTE
"LEGO has confirmed for me that they are no longer making Batman product. They did indicate that the future is open, but for now they are done.
Is it POSSIBLE that we'll see more from LEGO? Yes. After all, they also denied that they were going to make any Dark Knight related product as well..but we know how that turned out."

That TLC considers the future open for the Batman theme argues that they still hold the license. I wouldn't hold my breath for future Batman sets, but there is always hope.
jobiwonkinosi
Oh well, it's good to have some proper reasoning. Thanks Brick Rat.
Fingers crossed for the future!

Again sorry if this has all been discussed before, but I'm new here!

well, still the future is vague.... How long has it been since TLC released sets of a theme after a year gap? )

That's too bad its been shelved. I was hoping for a Mad Hatter hat. And Manbat and Clayface figures...

ED-209
Man, this sucks! Well, I guess it's time to start cranking out the custom figure then, eh?
Norro
Batman is the only license I've ever really accumulated sets from (beside the untouchable IJ). I'll be sad to see it go, the sets were well done and great sources of pieces...

God Bless,

Eskallon
Yep I am pretty sure they have gone, I should have bought some of the sets when I had the choice.
Batbrick
It was a great theme and shall be sadly missed. I still believe that if the designers on the two later waves had given the sets as much new figs as the first one, then it wouldn't be gone. Oh well though, it was fun while it lasted default_cry4.gif

Batbrick Away! default_devg1.gif

What makes me mad is that crap liscense like Spongey are still going. Batman was far better.

Bad move, lego. pirate_thumbdown.gif default_cry4.gif

I suspect this is why I've just forked out £15 for Batman and Robin minifigs via Bricklink.

I would kill for a Batmobile and Batcycle :(

Ah well, will keep watching Bricklink/Ebay for a good deal.
Darth Legolas
Even though I only owned 1 or 2 batman sets (don't remember,) it's really sad to see ol' mammal bird die like that.

Just wait a couple of weeks and megabloks will steal the license! default_tong.gif
TheBrickHitHouse
Cancelled....

In the UK it never started

Batman sets were never available at major chains - where they?

Why didnt anyone stock it?
Dadster
Aahhhhhhh!! I hadn't heard it was "Officially" ended. They had a gold mine there. So many characters. So many vehicle possibilities. So many "headquarter" or building possibilities.

Oh well.

I know we've lost a good license with Batman, but there's no reason to cry about it. And besides, SpongeBob is not crap. I'm sick of people like you, Holodoc, jifel, and other people criticizing SpongeBob. The criticism has to stop. I hate when people criticize, as it is one of few things I don't take lightly. Those criticisms bother the hell out of me. I like all kinds of different LEGO sets, but there are times when we all disagree on some things about them. Yes, some of the sets are better than others, but that goes for all themes from late '70s Classic Space all the way up to Batman.
Shoc
Batman was actually one of my top favourite Lego themes, so I am very dissapointed to see it go! default_angry.gif
I like Batman anyway and the sets were very well done (mostly), this is a crazy descision on TLC's part.

Yes, it seems really weird to release the game just as they are ending the theme. That game is probably my favourite computer game ever, and bursting with great ideas for new characters and sets! Now we won't get that...

Yeah! I do like SpongeBob, but I much prefer Batman and the sets are much better, yet it just stops, just like Harry Potter did! That was also a great theme that gradually dissapeared. default_cry4.gif

I always wondered that. I'm from the UK myself, and I got the first wave of sets from a local store that sells foreign toys, and the Batcave from Legoland Windsor (the only Batman set there). At least they started selling on Shop@Home, but I missed my chance to buy any of last year's sets. default_sadnew.gif
What was so bad about the Batman theme to cancel it, even after a complex videogame was made from it! I thought it was brilliant, obviously some fool at TLC decided it wasn't. default_hmpfbad.gif
I'm even considering using Bricklink for the first time ever, to get some of my missed sets/parts, but they seem very expensive at the moment!

I could not agree with you more Justin. It is tiring reading a post, and then have some player on there speaking how this is crap, or that is garbage, or how they hate everything. It is fine to have an opinion, and voice you opinion, but for goodness sake. We were talking about Batman, and then these guys come out and criticize SpongeBob? What they hey? Do you even own any SpongeBob? Clearly there are people like Justin on this site that do like our little friend from under the sea, and everyone should be more considerate. These last few replies were the straw on the camel's back so to speak, as I am a fan of the Power Miners, but there are a bunch of haters out there for that line too. Just be glad that LEGO is still making anything, and is not financially devastated right now.

As for Batman, I just came back from the Dark Ages as the new Tumbler came out, and I was REALLY excited to see what else they were going to come up with. I sure hope it is on a break while we wait for the next movie or something to draw interest again. There were literally thousands of incarnations of the Batmobile that we did not get, and it would be fun to get a few more.
captaincreek
I am disappointed that the batman sets are out of stock and this has concerned me, I was just about to order some and they were all out of stock, they were later removed and I was really annoyed, the tumbler was my main priority, but that was the first one to go as a rapid amount of purchases were made to that particular set and I unfortunately missed out, did anyone else?
If this is a topic that is not suitable or has a point to post, I really do apologize, thanks.

This is a topic that is generally being discussed in several other threads. Perhaps they can be merged?

I am just as disappointed as you, I was planning on eventually getting that Penguin Sub... default_cry4.gif

I personally am indifferent. I do understand where you are coming from though, and I feel this happens a lot with themes that don't necessarily sell well in TLG's opinion. I do hope you find the sets you are looking for though.

First of all: Greetings!
If you want to catch some left Batman sets, try to join the ''Galeria Kaufhof'' stores in Europe (If you live there...).
But if you want to discuss the lack of batman, please visit this topic: ~LINK~

I sympathise with you guys, I really do, but man, isn't this the best time to get some money for me! I've already made £300 profit on 5 Batman sets and stand to make more on a couple more sets I have yet to list. As an AFOL, this is how I make the money to buy the stuff I really want. I had all the Harry Potter sets too, and they made a tidy profit. No doubt if Lego decide not to renew the Star Wars licence after 2011 I'll have a gold mine under the stairs. At the end of the day, some of us use these sets as an investment, and boy are the Batman sets paying off...

Sorry to see it go, but really, there wasn't much more they could do with it without it getting silly. You only have to look at the rubbish they came up with when they designed this set - http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=7884-1

While I disagree that there wasn't much more to do, I must say I can no longer defend that set. It's rubbish default_cry4.gif

All I can say is: "I shouldn't of unboxed my Two-Face's van/Batmobile set. default_cry4.gif It already gets a great price on BL MISB, now they'll be extortionate.

On a less selfish note, it is sad to see the line go. the release of the game made me think it was still running strong. While I liked the sets, I would have liked them much better had they been real locales and vehicles from the movies (although I understand that TLC didn't want to encourage younger people to see movies like The Dark Knight.

I agree that set was terrible. But, the figs are nice and I can fetch a nice profit from them. Does anybody want to trade/buy them? I really dont need them (batman and freeze)

This is horrible. Horrible, horrible and also horrible. I never managed to get one of the sets, now how will I?

Be a millionaire... default_laugh2.gif

I think it's really strange about the price difference.
Think almost 2 years back, nobody want a single Batman set.
And today since the theme is reduced, the prices are over the dual original price... default_look.gif

Here in an undisclosed Latin America country where I live, the stores are still stocked with most of the batman sets. Of course, they're like $7 (usd) more expensive, but it's better than $50 (usd)! I still can't seem to find Arkham Asylum. Have found the Batcave though....
soc399
The end of Batman is a real shame, but now I understand why the figs are so expensive on Bricklink. I've been looking through the licensed themes for light flesh heads that I don't have, and some of the really cool Batman figs go for $20 or $30. I suppose it will only get worse.
Eilif
Wow, somehow I managed to miss the fact that Batman is done for over 2 months! I'm pretty disappointed. I liked the sets, and has been said it was a great source for parts. My wife demanded that I purchase a second Arkham when they went on sale for half off, and she got me the batcave for christmas. Arkham especially was one of the best non "CC" sets in recent memory for acquiring pieces to build realistic buildings.

Bye Bye Batman default_cry4.gif
