DTM - German Touring Car [WIP]

Recommended Posts

I have been working on this model in the last few months.

p1380279_.jpg

It is the chassis of a German touring car (DTM series).

Features:

  • Steering with HOG and working steering wheel
  • Full suspension using the new hubs. The first suspension is a modified version of Crowkillers' suspension.
  • Rear wheel drive
  • 3+R manual transmission (maybe it will be replaced with an 5+R later)
  • V8 fake engine
  • Functional rollcage
  • Modular design
  • Can be rebuild to a fully remote controlled car in a few minutes

Due to the modular design, it can be rebuild to a remote controlled vehicle with a 2 speed transmission. Two L engines for propulsion, a servo for steering and M motor for switching gears.

The body will be an Audi RS5. Or BMW. Or Mercedes, whatever can be modelled nicely.

Brilliant work in progress! I like your choice of suspension. I'm wondering what colour scheme you will use for the body and am looking forward to the completed model.

That's a very nice creation! Looks cool already, even without the body.

The roll cage looks great.

Is the push rod suspension on the rear axle working fine, or is the too much play due to not using a ball joint?

Thanks for the comments! The rear suspension works fine. There is a little play, but it's only noticeable if the model is lifted. The play in the hubs themselves are bigger. I showed it on a meeting, and an experienced builder (Mbmc) said that it is very precise, unlike many push-rod systems. It's much better than the suspension of 42000, where the pushrod touches a liftarm which causes a lot of friction.

One of the main goal is to make a playable model, that's why I keep it simple. It's going fine, the functions work flawlessly, the model is sturdy, you can grab it pretty much anywhere, you don't have to be cautious when using it, etc. Simply put, it's fun to play with.

Oh man. You just want to have me build something else from you so "your creation" stays on my shelf :P

Oh man I like DTM cars, no matter what body you'll implement the chassis is very cool already.

This looks awesome Lipko! I like how you made RC an option. You did the same thing with your ACC car right?

Thanks for your comments!

Yup, the little ACC car has the same option. The reason was that I wanted to take both models to the meeting, but I only have 2 L motors and 1 servo. Otherwise I would have just rebuilt the "Kisauto".

Wow, never thought i'd see Technic Porn, that chassis is just damn right beautiful... wish I had the pieces :(

How different is V8 Supercars? Could it have a Ford Falcon or Holden Commodore body? That would be ace.
