legomuppet9 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Hello I have made pretty decent work on my latest MOC, a 1:9 scale supercar. It's going to be mechanically based on the Ford Capri MkIII 2.8i, but mid-engined, as there isn't space over the front axle and I doubt that it'll look like a Ford Capri either for the two reasons of 1) I won't have the right parts and 2) I'm rubbish at building bodywork Anyway onto the model so far.... Supercar WIP - Rough Layout by legomuppet9, on Flickr It will feature: A 4 speed Gearbox (a motorised version of MisterFitzGibbon's version of Sariel's 4 speed linear gearbox with the addon of changing gear with one motion) McPherson front suspension with steering driven by an M Motor (a narrower version of Sheepo's McPherson I suspension in his MPS) Semi Elliptic Leaf Spring rear suspension with drive (An adapted version of Sheepo's brand new Semi Elliptic Leaf Spring suspension which I suggested for him to build (thanks for that Sheepo ) which I have attached to nicjasno's rigid axle he uses on his small leaf spring suspension, so with the old differential.) A fake V6 engine (mid-engined as it will not fit above the front axle as it should on the actual Ford Capri) Full RC (It'll be driven by an XL Motor) More pictures of the Gearbox: Supercar WIP - Gearbox by legomuppet9, on Flickr Supercar WIP - Gearbox by legomuppet9, on Flickr Supercar WIP - Gearbox by legomuppet9, on Flickr More pictures of the Front Axle: Supercar WIP - Front McPherson Suspension by legomuppet9, on Flickr Supercar WIP - Front McPherson Suspension by legomuppet9, on Flickr Supercar WIP - Front McPherson Suspension by legomuppet9, on Flickr Supercar WIP - Front McPherson Suspension by legomuppet9, on Flickr And more pictures of the Rear Axle: Supercar WIP - Rear Semi-Elliptic Leaf Spring Suspension by legomuppet9, on Flickr Supercar WIP - Rear Semi-Elliptic Leaf Spring Suspension by legomuppet9, on Flickr Supercar WIP - Rear Semi-Elliptic Leaf Spring Suspension by legomuppet9, on Flickr Next step is to actually put it all together... I don't quite have all the necessary RC components, but I hopefully will soon and in the meantime I will start to attach it all together, which I'm not that great at I must admit (hence why it's been left till last... ) Any comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated legomuppet9 Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I would change those wheels for something a bit better.... I look forward to the rest of the chassis. Quote
legomuppet9 Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 I can change the white rims to black... but they're unfortunatelyvthe only wheels I have that'll fit... Quote

Alasdair Ryan Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Yeb it looks a bit better now. Now for the middle part of the chassis,I would build a 'box' around both the gearbox and battery box. After that you should be able to join all three modules easily. Quote

Yeah that's what I was planning to do... hopefully I should be able to do that Quote
legomuppet9 Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Update on this project, I am scrapping it. The reasons are because I simply do not have the parts or the skill make the complexity and scale of this model work. Instead I am going to build a smaller car without a gearbox but instead with the following functions: Rear wheel drive via a XL Motor and differential Front wheel steering via a M Motor Full suspension, front independent, rear I have not yet decided, possibly independent I'll have to see Fake V6 engine Decent bodywork, as this wouldn't have been achievable on the bigger model with the parts I have I leave you with some photos of the almost complete chassis which is as far as I got on the big model. I will now disassemble this and start building the smaller one. Doc_Brown Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Noooo, don't scrap it, I love Ford Capri's!!! Did it really have leaf springs tho???? Quote
legomuppet9 Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Noooo, don't scrap it, I love Ford Capri's!!! Did it really have leaf springs tho???? Yep it used sheepo's http://www.sheepo.es/2013/04/mps-rear-axle-iv-live-axle-with-leaf.html And don't worry about the Ford Capri, it was never going to look like one anyway, however that may be achievable with the smaller one Quote
legomuppet9 Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 It looks a bit heavy in the middle... Yes i hadn't actually finished the chassis, and if you were to read the topics instead of spamming them with useless comments then you'll see that that project is scrapped.. Quote
