Galaxy Squad set suggestions

Recommended Posts

What sets would you like to see in Galaxy Squad?

Here are some of my ideas:

Insectoid Queen

Price: $60-75

Parts: 600

Minifigures: Billy Starbeam + four Larvae

Large Insectoid with eight posable legs, two sets of arms (one with claws, the other with blades), a large tail with a stinger and relatively small wings. Also has four of the smaller larvae-containing pods on it's abdomen. Features Billy Starbeam as the hapless victim .

Spray-Stomper CLX-57

Price: $40-50

Parts: 450

Minifigures: Billy Starbeam, Red Squad Robot and a new Red Squad member + Mosquitoid and two Larvae

Medium-sized Red Squad mech (slightly larger than the Samurai Mech from Ninjago) with flamethrower-like bug spray cannon. Can split into three vehicles: a walker and two fighter jets.

Arthropod Annihilator

Price: 80-100

Parts: 850

Minifigures: Billy Starbeam, Solomon Blaze, Chuck Stonebreaker, Jack Fireblade and Red, Green, Blue and Orange Robots + Green Buggoid

A multi-squad spaceship, with a Green Squad weapons section (featuring two angled turrets), a Blue Squad control deck, an Orange Squad-manned propulsion system and a deck of four Red Squad mini-fighters.

Control Base

Price: 100-120

Parts: 1250

Minifigures: Billy Starbeam, Solomon Blaze, Chuck Stonebreaker, Jack Fireblade, Ashlee Starstrider, new (Galactic Titan) Blue Squad member, new Red and Green Squad members and Red, Green, Blue and Orange Robots + Red Buggoid, Armored Mosquitoid and four Larvae

A large hexagonal base, split evenly into four parts. The Blue Squad area has a meeting room, the Green Squad has a very large turret, the Red Squad has a fighter launch pad and the Orange Squad has a small laboratory. In the center is a large tower, predominantly white, but on each of the four sides it is detailed with the color that part of the base is in. The walls around the base all have small turrets on them.

Note: No idea what to put at the top of the tower.

Please add your own ideas and have fun!

Fond of Billy Starbeam eh?

Some good ideas here. Isuppose this thread runs the potential risk of turning into battle pack after battle pack but I think the alien queen and a human base would be great ideas. I'm not so sure we'll see a third wave of GS sets but you never know. I think this theme is just going to be replaced by NInjago next year.

Good thing I didn't add a battle-pack myself then. And as a matter of fact I'm not to much of a fan of the red squad, but at least this evens it out a bit.

Personally, I hope Ninjago coming back doesn't force this theme back into oblivion. It's the first space theme in over two years and definitely better than the last one. In some ways, better even than Ninjago itself.

Isn't orange squad firepower, because you've given all the turrets to the greens.

I think your spot on with a base. I love bases because you need somewhere to dock your ships and plan your missions. Just one more thing... an actual large ship for the reds! They are VERY under represented.

Nest Burster

?? parts

$30-40

Orange team

Jack Fireblade, new orange squad grunt, Buggoid and four Buggoid eggs.

A mole like vehicle with that large drill bit piece on the nose. Designed to separate from its caterpillar tracked carrier and burrow down into the ground to deliver GS squaddies into the heart of the nest/hive. In essence just a long tube with a drill head but it would have deployable nest bursting bombs, house a troop carrier module and have a weapons storage compartment. The carrier would have a control station so the mole could be operated remotely.

Also included would be a small section of nest/hive wall with a launching feature to send the Buggoid eggs flying at the GS squaddies.

Insectoid Repellent

?? parts

$??

Red team

Billy Starbeam or some other team member, two robots.

Long sleek flying vehicle with three cockpits. The robots pilot two small split off strike craft while the squaddie pilots the main vehicle. Armed to the teeth. Obligatory flick-fire missiles.

The main cockpit would have two positions; lowered when the strike craft are attached and raised when they aren't. There should probably be some huge bomb on the belly of the ship. Some clever release mechanism where pushing down on something makes fingers release the bomb.

Mobile Ballistic platform in need of a better name

?? parts

$??

Green team

Chuck Stonebreaker, two green team grunts and a robot.

Mobile platform that serves as both a massive cannon and also as a forward bunker. Sides fold out to create a 'firewall' behind which the GS squaddies can find protection from heavy fire. Manned cannon positions on top of the wall. gun slits in the wall. The main cannon on top of the vehicle can be deployed as a stationary emplacement while the squaddies use the vehicle and extended 'firewall' as a shield and advance towards the enemy while the cannon provides covering fire.

Recon platform

?? parts

$??

Olive team

Female squaddie, robot

Small olive coloured floating reconnaissance platform/craft. Transparent computer display of terrain with squad positions and insectoid positions. Tiles printed with terrain maps of Buggoid nest. Control station and seat. Side mounted cannons. Protective canopy. Space binoculars.

Some good ideas! I'd really like to see a black team for some reason - they could specialise in stealth or something. I doubt TLG wil add anymore factions though. I'd really like to see some sort of hovercraft for the humans, with some sort of deploable flying vehicle and perhaps some sort of large insectoid vehicle with an opening shell with an interior and light up eyes. I really liked the old lightup noisy brick that came with some of the old Insectoid sets and it would be nice to see them appear in this theme, too.

I can't find anything about the Orange Squad specialty. And while the Green Squad are defense, I thought shield generators would be boring. Anyway, here's another idea:

CLS-47 Troop Carrier

Price $40-50

Parts: 450

Minifigures: Jack Fireblade, Ashlee Starstrider and the Orange Squad Robot + Mosquitoid

Features an armored Orange Squad ship with large engines and a flip-down ramp giving access to the hollow center of the ship, which has a small armory and space for up to six (unarmored) Squad members. It also has three disconnecting drones, a wheeled scanner and two flying "shooters", plus a small fly-inspired Insectoid vehicle.

Also, an idea for one of those mini-boxed sets (slightly larger than a polybag):

Insectoid Scarer

Price: $3-7

Parts: 50

Minifigure: Mosquitoid and a Larva

Features a small, generic Insectoid vehicle with wings and a small pod to hold the larva on it's abdomen.

Great ideas everyone!

*Impulse. I think a troop carrier sounds good. Just any type of command base!

I'm on a roll:

Armored Battle

Price: $60-75

Parts: 600

Minifigures: Solomon Blaze and Blue Squad Robot + Armored Mosquitoid and Green Buggoid

Features a medium-sized Blue Squad "roller" (essentially a giant wheel) with a cockpit that swivels so it remains upright while the vehicle is rolled, four detachable drones and a (seperate) powerful mini-speeder. The other part of the set is a slightly smaller scorpion-like Insectoid vehicle with a blaster for a stinger, a fully-enclosed cockpit and large claws.

Insectoid Hive

Price: $80-100

Parts: 950

Minifigures: Chuck Stonebreaker + Armored Mosquitoid, two Mosquitoids, Green Buggoid and five Larvae

A giant Insectoid base (again, hexagonal), with five green cocoons (for holding the Insectoid figures), a catapult for firing the Larvae capsules, several small Insectoid vehicles and perhaps a web-like construction.

I´m not to happy about the last idea for the Insectoid Hive. Any suggestions?

Buggoid Hive

Buggoid Queen maxifig, two Elite Buggoids, four larva, GS team member.

The hive could be a fortress mound. Three levels with open backs but a fairly solid looking facade front that steps back at each level.

Each level has a 'balcony' platform at the front with some sort of weapon on the 'battlements'. zamor sphere launcher, larva pod launcher and the like.

The top level is a disguised vehicle that folds up and sits in a sort of crater and looks like the mound top but is ready to unfold and strike at the Squaddies.

The middle section would be a hangar for a few small flyers and crawlers that are pretty much brick built bugs.

The bottom level would be where the Hive queen is and a bunch of larva pods and coccoon pods. The queen would be a maxifig and have a couple of elite Buggoids as guards. Possibly dark red or maybe another colour. There'd be one squaddie in the set in a coccoon to give the rest of the squaddies someone to rescue.

As a big set it wouldn't have a GS vehicle so that the budget could be spent on the hive itself.

Damn. A far more worked out idea for an Insectoid Hive. Good job. May I ask what you think the price point would be?

Very high. Erm, I don't know. Somewhere in the 60-70 dollars range? I'm hopeless at pricing things. I suppose cost could be cut by using BURPs to construct the mound facade.

I'd think, seeing how complex your idea is, it'd be in either the 80-100 or the 100-120 price range.

That was my original estimate but then I figured that it's a Lego set and they don't do really solid structures unless it's a creator or modular set. I was sort of imagining a facade that looked solid but actually wasn't with the set being mostly a dressed up framework. Imagine volcano base and the base from aerial defence unit on top with a vehicle perched on top instead of a dish. and the whole thing juuuuust a bit bigger. And obviously not brown or with a lava flow or doors or a big helicopter. See what i was thinking?

This had to be done:

Insectoid Hive-Builder

Price: $15-30

Parts: 140?

Minifigures: Green Buggoid 2x, Red Buggoid 1x, Mosquitoid 3x, Larvae 6x, Armored Mosquitoid 2x

Comes with a small assortment of alien weaponry.

I might think up some army builders for the Squaddies, perhaps a seperate one for each team.

We're definitely missing an HQ of some kind. The humans kind of have one now with the Galactic Titan, but some kind of alien hive with a Queen minifigure would be fantastic.

That's if we see a third wave, of course...

White Team: Medical

Medical Support Ship:

Prices: $35-40

Parts: 200-300

Minifigs: 1 White Medic Trooper, 1 White Surgeon robot, 1 injured battle damaged Red Trooper.(Question: Why do Red shirts always get hurt?)

Description: An injured trooper needs help. The trooper has battle damaged armor and lost a hand. A landing beacon is set up to call for medical help.

In comes a Medical Support Ship to land near the beacon. The back opens and out comes a stretcher to load the injured trooper into the ship.

In the ship a medical robot uses a needle to give the trooper medicine. The robot attaches a robot hand to the injured trooper.

Now that scenario seems awfully familiar.........

I like the idea of a medical ship but Lego wouldn't put a handless minifigure into a set unless it was a character in a licensed theme. cuts and bruises seem ok but nothing more major.

I know a hand less minifig would not be good but I just had to have a Star Wars link in the story after the Star Trek link in the minifig part.

As far as battle damage, it could just be marks on the armor not marks on the face.

Well, I've decided to try and make it more Galaxy Squad-y:

Medic Tank

Price: $65

Parts: 560

Minifigures: Billy Starbeam, Red Squad Robot and specialized Medic Robot (red detailing) + Red Buggoid

Large but lightly armed tracked vehicle with opening top compartment, featuring a small deck equipped with various medical tools, including a scalpel, defibrillator and an X-ray screen. The front part slides upwards to reveal a large, firing cannon.

I would love to see an Insectoid-Inspection lab reminiscent of the Space bases from the 1990's. It could have a landing pad for a VTOL, and large dome windows peering into a complex lab brimming with greeblies and perhaps a place for the Squad members to R&R. Of course this is unlikely since LEGO seems to focus more on monolithic mobile labs rather than the stationary ones in the past; it adds more "playability" if the lab was a feature of a giant fighting machine on wheels.

However, with the recent 5985 Space Police Central I haven't given my hopes up.

Thanks for the inspiration. After misreading your idea, I came up with this:

Insectoid Lab

Price: $60

Parts: 540

Minifigures: New alien figure (possibly with special bladed hands/arms, but using the "old" wings in purple) and three Larvae

A slightly skeletal alien laboratory, featuring a "Bug Scientist" creating new "breeds" of Insectoids (vehicles). Comes with an assortment of modular segments to mix-and-match construct your own Insectoid creatures.

How about a beacon or a helipad? :classic:

Hmm...A helipad would be kind of strange in space, but how about this:

Z-43 Launch Pad

Price: $50

Parts: 450

Minifigures: Ashlee Starstrider, Solomon Blaze and Orange Robot + Green Buggoid

Features a medium-sized platform with four small "jets", one orange, one green, one red and one blue. The main feature is a small rocket and it's launch systems, piloted by the Orange Robot.

I'm wondering if I should change the rocket to a turret or just a slightly larger "jet".
