"You raise a good point there, Cronk. So it is likely that our killer isn't one who would be armed, unless that is, they thought the murder through so carefully to deliberately leave Mandric's dagger behind to make us consider a suicide. I don't know."

"But I think it is unlikely that Sir Helmer would have killed Mandric, as I think that a Paladin like him, relying on a code of honour; would need far more provoking that just a petty quarrel to actually murder someone in cold blood. Or Jorke neither, he seems all for preserving life, I just can't imagine him going off taking it away, besides, he has no motive that we know of. Mats just seems apathetic to the whole affair, so I can garner that it probably isn't him either. So far, I'm considering the Priestess, Ansar, and maybe even an accident to be responsible for this."

Alexis stops walking to the heroes can talk to each other.  "Well  I don't think any of the novices would have done it, Ansar was really touchy, so I think it's him.  No one else really gets on my radar."

"Oh, they different opinion on a lot of things. Priestess Mandrea never thought the High Counsel did anything of use and often criticized sir Mandric of not doing enough when he met the other in the counsel. Sir Mandric was a strong speaker for the abolition of orc slavery and that the Order should make it a priority goal, but the priestess thought there where other more important things to focus on, like the education and upkeep of all the institutions of the Order. They also fought sometimes over sir Mandrics drinking, the priestess even stopped me from serving him alcohol sometimes. But as I said before, they always seemed to solve their problems. I guess it's a siblings thing, to forgive each other quick and not hold grudge over passed things, but I'm an only child so what do I know."

Cronk does not think it was Ansar.  Cronk thinks Ansar would not have gotten Mandric's dagger from Mandric.  Mandric woiuld not have let Ansar get close enough.

But Cronk then thinks that perhaps friends should visit Ansar instead of Helmer.

"I think that we can rule out Mandrea being responsible at this point. From what we've garnered at this point, I doubt she would hurt a fly, let alone her own brother, who she seemed so close to.  No, I can't she her having anything to do with at all, not even in a spur of the moment thing. So that is one name that we can cross off here."

Cronk does not think that friends can rule priestess out.  The more Cronk thinks about this murder the more Cronk thinks that death wasn't deliberate.  It seems like there was not forethought.  Priestess was under much stress and often had arguments with brother.  Mandric was very, very drunk.  It would be terrible if things got out of hand like that but Cronk thinks it within realm of possibility.

"In that case, Ansar looks to be a likely suspect. He strikes me as a fairly angry bloke who, when faced with a very drunk and armed Mandric, could have done many kinds of things. Helmer also, if only in self-defence. If Mandric was even half as drunk as we think he was, it wouldn't have taken much for him to get himself into a bad situation."

Cronk thinks Haldor is over thinking it.  Mandric was not roaming the halls picking fights with beings.  Cronk believes that Mandric could very well have been on way to novice quarters.  Cronk also believes that most likely people to stop Mandric en route would be Priestess Mandrea, finding that he'd left his bed, or a novice coming from the quarters.

If Cronk were gambling being, Cronk would bet that murderer was either Priestess or Novice Sira.  Both would have good reason to argue with Mandric and would be more likely to be unarmed in a confrontation.

"Ever been drunk, Cronk? Trust me, drunks don't tend to think rationally. And the point I was actually making, is that is more likely to be someone such as Ansar if it after all, was just a a drink induced fight that went wrong. Also, logical as it would seem for Sira and the Priestess to come accross Mandric, I sincerely doubt that they would have been able to overcome him in a fight. Unless he was so drunk that his wits had gone and drafted out the window."

Cronk is actually very familiar with state of being drunk.  Just because Cronk does not drink now does not mean Cronk has not in the past.  Mandric told Cronk that Mandric wanted to see a novice last night before Mandrea put him to bed.  And Mandric was very, very drunk.  It would not surprise Cronk if Mandric was overpowered by someone that would not normally be able to do so.

Cronk has hesitated saying this but Ansar is a coward.  For all Ansar's bluster, Ansar is afraid of power and would not know what to do with it if Ansar was in a position to have some.  Ansar was born with great gift and Ansar threw it away.  Ansar was willing to have magical ability torn from Ansar's body to avoid power of it.  Cronk does not think Ansar would be capable of standing up to Mandric.

"I agree with Cronk on his point about Ansar.  I'd never thought of it like that.  I'm still not sure why someone would murder their own brother, but Sira is on the list for sure.  Shall we speak to her?"

Cronk thinks speaking with novice again may clear some things up.

"Alright, to the novices we go!"  Alexis takes the party to their quarters first, if they're not there, they head to the classroom.

"You have a very perceptive mind, Cronk, I hadn't really read it like that before. So, to Sira it is then? From what others have been saying, Mandric seems to have been close to her; so his death could very much have been the result of an argument after he tried to get closer than she thought was right. And if you're right, and he was completely off his head, then it would hardly have been necessary for her to engage him at all."

Haldor sighed and turned away.

"We seem to be darting around all over the place."

The party walks over to the novices dormitory where they find all of the girls.

"Hello again girls.  Sorry about the last time we talked.  We're all a bit uptight about this stupid murder."

Sira, Cronk would like to know why Sira was out of bed.  Where was Sira going?  Was this a normal thing?

Did any novice hear anything about a trial for Mandric or of anything Mandric's done that might get Mandric in trouble with the Order?

"I told you, I was going to pray in the sanctuary. It's nothing strange with that, whenever I can't sleep I do it.
I haven't heard anything about a trial but maybe it's because he is a drunkard and get take care of his duties?"


"I haven't heard anything about a trial either. Maybe he got caught taking bribes or something like that?"


"I know nothing about that."


"Me neither. I think sir Mandric was a great Paladin, some evil enemy probably did something and blamed him."

How often does Sira have trouble sleeping?  Did Mandric know of this habit?  Can other Novices confirm this habit?

Do the novices know of any trouble between Mandric and Mandrea?  

And just to make sure, no other novices left their beds but Sira last night?

"It happens sometimes. I don't see why sir Mandric would know or care about my sleeping habits."


"I can confirm that Sira sometimes has trouble sleeping and usually goes to the sanctuary when that happens."
