It would be nice to have some more info (either positive or negative) from other people who ordered the chess set recently. Anyone?

Out of curiousity, what makes you say that? Ive always been a fan of the classic swords, but I hope they don't use these in the LOTR sets. I think the rounded ends would look goofy compared to the pointy blades they have now.

Hovewer, I adore new horse but not this new weapon mould...

Is lego having some sword experiments going perhaps .
Maybe we have a new non-licensed Castle theme coming up? One can only hope!
Also, a question to the OP: could you take a look at the Ovoid Dragon shields in the chess set? You mentioned that the print quality was much better, so I'm hoping that Lego might have corrected the color issues. Thanks!

It doesn't really have a Lord of the Rings "style" in my eyes, although maybe it would work as a sword of the Lake Town men or Dale men?
I think it will probably be used for many "new" castle or historical themed models over the next few years.
As for the Hobbit trailer. Well all I can say is "Peter Jackson".
The Mountain Giant battle looks good but is only a short element of the book, it forces the Travellers into the cave where the goblins capture them.
An expanded role for Radagast? Okay I guess that makes sense if they are going to have a Trilogy where Dol Guldur features as more than an afterword.

Are they replacing the classic broadsword? I'm not sure how to feel about that, then again I already have a decent amount of them in pearl silver.

I just meant, that if TLG makes a new mould, than in all likelihood it will filter it's way into standard sets. That said I'd agree with the above view that the highlander and gladius swords seem to be the standard so perhaps this new mould will be retained for whatever non-licensed castle stuff appears in the future.
Another view might be it is just a one-off for this set, seeing as they seem to be made in China, so perhaps have adapted the mould/design for that production method?
Only time will tell, but I was quite a fan of the old classic rounded sword :(
