slovakiasteph Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Inspired by Carbohydrates' Spite House, I decided to build an 8-wide house of my own. I was intrigued because I'd never heard of spite houses before and even commented on them on facebook: one of my friends said " I drove by that all the time when I lived in Alexandria!!! IT FREAKED ME OUT! My car is wider than that house!" So as a riff on that I built this house (plus, blue bricks were the only bricks I had multiples of), but it soon took on a more modern flair style and I decided to leave its original intentions behind. (I need to fix the top balcony... I forgot it was supposed to be connected to the middle floor and not the top one) The first floor holds the living and kitchen areas. This is where things got tight. I decided to build a bench/sofa that can also be used as a seat for the table on the right when dinner comes around. My link I originally had a staircase like the one on the second floor but changed to the clear windows because it opened up the room more. The kitchen is tucked away under the stairs. Back door too, but I haven't decided what to do with the very small backyard space. Second floor: bathroom and hallway. One of my goals when I build a LEGO house is to create something in which I'd want to live, and although I think this house would make me claustrophobic, I do like the style! Third floor: bedroom with a skylight. Yes, I'm running out of bricks. Before I build anything else, I'll have to demolish one of my old buildings (and I've already taken down my Greek Revival modular). That's why the upstairs has such a colorful "paint job." I need to figure out something to build in the extra green space next to the house... any ideas? I would do a pocket park, but my town already has a park (although private). Both of my 8x32 baseplates are in use elsewhere in my modular town. Thanks for looking! Quote
Wedge09 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Nice work, Perfect for those with limited space and want to create a miniature town Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Great looking though cramped house, suggestion might be a shower instead of a bath.....but I like the challenge you took on there 'slovakiasteph' ! I also know who would like to live in such a small place, someone not very tall...... Brick On 'slovakiasteph' ! Quote
branolego Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 fantastic execution! and a very interesting tidbit about a building i had no idea existed. thanks for sharing this. Quote
Vindicare Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Another great house from you, slovakiasteph! You make some great houses. I too never knew this type of house existed. You always have great interiors that have a quaint look to them. Quote
Ferrik Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 You made good use of the limited space you had, so great job. Quote
Vincent Kessels Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Great job! I know how difficult it is to make an 8 wide modular building with an interior. Quote
kyphur Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Interesting subject matter. Never knew about spite houses until I found your thread... Quote

Are you going to update this MOC in the near future with the top balcony fixed and adding something in the green space? I was wondering if this MOC should be indexed right now or not. For your green space with your decrease in your quantity of bricks in mind, you could make a creepy alley with dumpsters, garbage cans, cardboard boxes and homeless people. Quote
