In this weekend I and the Danish LUG (byggepladen) will try to set a new record for the longest LEGO train track.

We will build 1.500,64 meters of tracks. You can follow this event here:

From the diagram that seems a bit tightly packed. How much floor space will it take in reality?

Also how many trains do you plan running on it at any given time? I have never had a train running for a long time and only on small tracks so I am wondering how many circuits they will do on one set of batteries or one charge, or is this going to be 9/12V?

Looks very interesting though and hopefully you will manage to pull it off. Good luck! Lets see some photos when it is done.

I think it's going to be with battery's   The amout of cable and powerpoints requierd are inmense !!

Wow ! I think this is going to be a nice record.

Just one question : Is there going to be a lot of x crossings in the regtangualar bases ? Or is the track going to be on another level ?

There will be a lot of crosses. It is in one level.

The size of the track is just over 300 squaremeters.

The track is finished. The total length is 1.500,64 meter. It took us 5.5 hours to build it. We have used more 35.000 pieces of LEGO.

Right now is my very old train - the 133 - on the track to complete a lap. It will probably take around 2 hours.

I have been collecting the old blue tracks for many years. I used to play with them and the old trains when I was a 6 year old boy.

The day before christmas I got this crazy idea, that I would make the longest LEGO train track in the world. I started with 200 meters, now I have more than 1.500,64 meters.......

I have bought them at BL, received many as donations or bought them locally here in Denmark.  The whole Danish LUG (byggepladen) has helped me a lot. This was not possible without their help.

Pretty good that you did it. I hope the engine derailing just before the end did not disqualify you from the official record, or did several of the other trains running make it anyway? (Or was the 5m irrelevant as you had already broken the record?)

It was irrelevant. It took another turn. We also had several other trains complete the whole track.

It is not a Guinness record - we have to make more than 2.300 meters, as some japanese toys hold the Guinness record. LEGO has not its own category in the Guinness book of records.

The former record was 1.190,88 meter according to http://recordholders.../list/lego.html

We will be back with much more than 1.500,64 meters - this was just a test !

But this was the longest LEGO train track ever build.
