Seeing how we won't get anymore Kingdoms set from LEGO, I decided to prolong the life of such a magnificent theme a bit myself: by modding sets from past and present LEGO themes (Castle as well as non-Castle) to look like something that could have been released as part of the Kingdoms theme. Some sets will be changed mor dramatically than others, but I will attempt to make them all seem like believable LEGO sets.

This is my second (and long overdue) creation (the first can be found here). It is, as most will probably spot, a modification of the 2009 Pirates set: 6242 Soldier's Fort - added some homage to a certain previous Castle set as well. I've always loved ports and ships and felt that most Castle themes were lacking in that department, and Kingdoms certainly is no exception (with there being zero such sets). So here's my own addition!

I apologize for the poor pictures, they are taken with my phone because my camera decided to stop working.

The name, Escape from the Lion's Prison, is my attempt to use a name that would be consistent with other set names for Kingdoms sets. Here it is:

From another angle:

The set has the same modularity as Soldier's Fort and an example of a different configuration can be seen here:

Once again: I apologize for the poor pictures, I hope you can cope!

Love it! Great idea and execution. I'm totally on board with the idea of theoretical Kingdoms additions. Please keep doing these.  :classic:

Thanks. I'm hoping to inspire people with ways to "Kingdoms-ify" their LEGO collection. That, and just having fun fooling around with the builds.

Looks good!  I like that, even though it's small, there seems to be a lot of pieces hinted at in this fort.  The tower, the jail itself, and the smaller structure in the back.  Rest area?  Blacksmith?  Could be any of those, really.

That brave Dragon knight sure does have his work cut out for him, though! Posted Image

Very cool, I like how its on the waters edge and the layout. The more I see the medieval legos the more I want them.

A nice and simple set. I like it. It's definitely something that fits in with the current kingdoms line.

I'm am sad to see this line end so quickly. I thought that it was a nice change from the more fantasy based previous castle line.

You've inspired me to go and see if I can make a set to compliment the kingdoms line.

Great! I like how you've managed to adapt a pirate set into something castle-like, awesome!

Excellent design! This would make a great set   , the modularity is a nice feature and the buildings themselves work well  :classic:

I like it a lot. I have been doing something similar, although on a larger scael than you would usually find. I have been MOCing small sets which can then integrate together to form a massive castle + Town + port combo. I really look forward to seeing what other creations you come up with :classic:

Is the building in the corner a reworking of the build from 7029 Skeleton Ship Attack? Not that that's a bad thing the Human side of the Fantasy line shares a lot of similarities with the Kingdoms line.

It's got a nice elegant simplicity to it which put's it very definitely in the line of "something that Lego could make and sell."

That's awesome, Hive! I loved the old soldiers sets and the one and only 2009 Pirates set I bought was 6242 Soldiers Fort. This would look pretty good next to that little port section in the Fantasy Era 7029 Skeleton Ship Attack.

Indeed! I was waiting for someone to notice. I wanted to pay homage to the #1 Fantasy set I wish I had. Some fine day, I will get it!

Yeah if I had 7029, I would build the two together for a larger port. And then use The Black Pearl to build a better Skeleton Ship, but that's for another project...

Thanks again for the nice comments!  :classic:

Great job Hive! I would never have thought of using Soldiers Fort in a castle context but your MOC illustrates how well it actually works. Considering the general derth of castle themed ships its perhaps not surprising that harbours are difficult to come by. Skeleton Ship attack is the only comparable example that springs to mind. I actually think this is an improvement over the original, the building in the corner is much more substantial and you added a door to the building on the right, much needed in my opinion. I'm also pleased to see you have preserved the modularity of the original.

My only (exceedingly minor) criticism is with the name, surely it would be better to call it a harbor? Although there is a prison its more of a harbor rather than a prison. Although its your MOC so you should call it what you want.

Oh I agree that the name is pretty terrible. I gave it this name mostly as a joke-reference to the names of Kingdoms sets, which weren't all that great. This name is a direct counter to Escape from Dragon's Prison. I felt it was amusing that  half of the sets or so included the name 'prison' or 'attack' and wanted to go with that.

My first idea definately was to include the name 'harbor' in some capacity. "Royal Harbor", "Lion Harbor Attack" or something along those lines.

Thanks for the kind words btw.  :classic:

Clearly it should've been Escape From the Lion Harbor Prison Rescue Attack where the Lion guard soldiers escape from the attacking Dragon rescue soldiers Posted Image
