For those that have missed on buying the old CMFs at retail stores, the Build-A-Mini stations is your second chance to get them as some of them have shown up in them. As usual the inventory varies from store to store and may not have all the parts to complete them. Nevertheless, this thread will be kept up to date with what has shown up in the stores. So keep those posts coming and please check the current list to report only those that have not been mentioned.

Here's the current list of old CMFs that have shown up in the BAM stations;

Series 1

Series 2

Series 3

Series 4

Original post on July 4, 2012

I've seen a lot of the older series CMFs showing up in the Build-A-Mini three packs. The caveman, clown, cheerleader, forestman were the first ones that I've seen though I only bought a three-pack forestman.

Most recently I've seen the musketeer though without the plume and epee.

Which ones have you found and did you buy any?

A couple of weeks ago I got lucky to get these!

What on earth is this concept? Can you explain it a bit? I've never seen these things before. Is it just a bunch of hair pieces from different figures?

And what were you saying about something Forestmen? :oh:

In the Lego stores they have a kiosk for minifigs similar to pick a brick. They have bins of random minifig parts, and you can build 3 for $9.99. The bins are often stocked with parts from common series 1 and 2 minifig parts. So lots of clowns, cheerleaders, witches, vampires etc to be made (no capes!). There are often parts to assemble a few forrestmen as well. (or to customize on the spot to make yourself some forrestwomen).

The selection isn't always the greates, varried wildly from store to store, and anything really rare or good is typically farmed out early and often. But it is a real good way to flesh out some themes for MOCs and such.

I'm surprised at the ops pics though. At my local store you get three figs. So head, torso, legs, hair, and 1 accessories per fig. They won't let you stock up on just hair or heads.

Thanks for explaining it to Hive.

Definitely depends by store and I don't show these off at the store to the other customers. Try to ask nicely if they'll allow you, the worst they can say is no.

The build-a-mini stations I've been to didn't allow you to get parts that didn't form complete minifigures... I'm a bit jealous of your haul.

I've only ever bought one package of Build-A-Minis.

Question - where does Lego get all these pieces for the Build-A-Minifig? I mean, are these used parts from the store or does Lego just produce a number of "extras" to use specifically for these?

AC started this thread just to brag, I bet. He knows not every store allows this, so he's rubbing it in our noses.

Nice with the helmets, I'd never buy a box of ninja wraps though. I usually get just torsos if they let me, but I will pick up a whole box of forestman hats if I ever find enough. Most i've ever found was i think 3, but totally worth dropping 3 torsos to get some of those hats.

Couple weeks ago I picked up 8 cheerleader torsos and 7 of those pink legs with buckles (pop singer).

A lot of stores are apparently going to stop allowing this practice because they run out of torsos. :cry_sad: According to a manager I spoke to at a large store.

Thanks for the explanation. I have heard about (and seen at my one and only visit to a brand LEGO store) the in-store build-a-minifig concept, but I did not know that you could get just head pieces in some stores and I did not know you would get them in any form of packaging like in the pictures... so in my confusion, I thought this was some new and strange retail product. Once again, thanks for the clarification!

The downtown disney store lets you get 15 pieces whatever they are for 9.99

A lot of the made-in-China parts seem to be parts from the Collectible Minifigures series, vintage minifigure collections, etc. left over after production ends on the sets themselves. I'm not positive, though-- it could be that they deliberately make more parts than they need for these sets.

I've always made it a point to try and get at least one Build a Minifig thing whenever I go to the LEGO store in Arundel Mills. Not only have they had some of the Collectible Minifig parts that I didn't get or only got a few of (i.e. Series 1 Forestman and Tribal Hunter), but they have had other gems as well: I got about half a dozen of the "Blacktron III" torsos from the SP III line, some of the white ship captain's shirt with the anchor on the pocket, and even some ORIGINAL 1999 vintage Red Ninja torsos & headgear from the original Ninja line... I'm not kidding there, either: The guy working at the store told me that they were discovered, "Sitting around in some warehouse in Billund for the past 10 years." *huh*

I also have used the Minifig Bar to acquire a fairly substantial collection of Black Kepi hats (which average about $0.75 each on BrickLink, not including shipping), Black Fedoras and other rare and unusual headgear. Unfortunately, the accessories are usually lacking (mostly just sabres, walkie-talkies, coffee mugs, goblets and other common minifig tools)....

At my store there was everything the series 1 cheerleader had except the pom-poms, and the same wih the magician: no wand. The musketeer was there too. I got all three though.

EDIT: got the magician too.

Managed to find some of these today at a local Lego store. The biggest score here is of course the Spaceman torsos- they'll come in very handy for Neo-Classic Space stuff. : D The only thing the store was missing was the matching headgear...hey ACPin, how much would you charge for 5 of those white helmets you have so many of?

This store is at the Galleria Mall in Birmingham, Alabama. Even though I live in Northwest Florida, this is the closest Lego store. I went mainly to get pick-a-brick elements. Just like the minifig parts, we're pretty much at the mercy of whatever pieces Lego has available in the pick-a-brick section.

Here's a picture of one of my minifig builds and a container of pick-a-bricks:

I really can't complain, I enjoyed the visit to the Lego shop.

Recently I bought a few of the bride torso from the wedding cake topper set plus some plaited brown hair like the fantasy era queen used to wear. I did like the BAM section more before it became nearly totally CMF people, and CMF ones I would not have wanted to buy at that! (Where were our zombies and series 1 robots???) Cheerleaders were nice but without pom poms its rather redundant. Its a shame the accessories do not vary.

In a few visits to the brand stores of Copenhagen and one to Berlin, I've managed to part together the S1 wrestler (minus the cape, though that's an easy replacement), S1 indian, S1 forestman (minus the plume), S2 witch (minus the easily-replaced broom), S2 disco dude (minus the printed tile) and S3 rapper (minus accesories, but with the cap). I've also found various parts from other CMFs - for instance, I've picked up a handful of S2 vampire heads and torsoes.

I don't think we're going to find out the correct answer to that question but we can only assume that they've produced more than was packaged in CMF series boxes. At least there's a second chance to get the minifigs but really bad that the accessories are not there.

AC started this thread just to brag, I bet. He knows not every store allows this, so he's rubbing it in our noses.

I'm not the only one to cash in on these as the replies show. It would also be good to keep it going as it looks like the same minifigs show up in most stores. I'll update the first post later to make a tally of what minifigs have shown up by series.

Wow, a bunch of headgear! My local store has series 1-4, but I've just never picked them up. I might get some musketeer helmets next time I'm there.

I've seen those too and since I have enough musketeers did not buy any. Too bad there were no plumes and epees to go with the minifig.

Sorry no sale on those, I could've easily got the minifig but I don't have any need for it. So I just got the helmets which can come in handy for future MOCs.

AC

PS.Keep them coming and if possible list the minifig, series and if complete or not so that I can tally them up in the first post.

My normal strategy to achieve something similar to what ACPin has done here is as follows.

Offer both my children a BAMF pack.

Go and half fill a PAB cup.

Assist the children in building their Minifigs - My daughter almost always picks out Cheerleader parts, whilst my son goes for Pharoah's (Cant explain why?) Whilst sifting through the bins anything good in terms of parts can be added to the PAB cup.

Once finished at the BAMF station, go complete filling the PAB cup.

I've found the staff in the U.K stores incredibly helpful, and have even gone out back to find more of certain items that I've then popped straight in the PAB cup. I've never taken more than 3 or 4 of any part and always go for accessories and hairpieces/hats.

I think that putting BAM parts in PAB cups is pretty much the same as stealing them.

@ACPin: Alright! Here's a list of all the CMF pieces I've seen in my local store at some point in the past two months:

Series 1

Series 2

Series 3

Series 4

...And my store hasn't yet received any series past 4.

@ Solitary Dark, Sid Sidious: What Sid said is right- the PaB and BaM sections are separate, as each has its own pricing and containers meant to be used only in that section. If you have to hide pieces from one section in the container of another like that, then it's very much a no-go; I'm sure the manager of the store would say the same thing if you asked.

Too bad there aren't any Spartans or elves. I should've gotten more of those when Series 1 & 2 were out :sceptic:

At least I have 2 of each  I put the wrestler together too, and the same with the caveman(no club though) I got a couple of spaceman helmets and torsos too :classic:

There are also a lot of forestmen and musketeers at my shop, and some disco dudes too. I found a mime torso, and also a sailor hat.

EDIT: more minifigures I discovered at my local shop :sweet:
