Jacob Nion Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) Hey, here's my Version of Gollum's Cave, as described in Tolkien's The Hobbit. I'm also thankful for every like on Mocpages http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/329680 Edited June 25, 2012 by Jacob Nion Quote
Blob of Nothingness Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Looks great! What face did you use for Bilbo, by the way? Quote
Jacob Nion Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 Thanks! It's the face of Blackbeards chef (and one of the new Endor Rebells, afaik) Quote
purpleparadox Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Good MOC! I loved this scene in the book and you did a great job portraying it. The greens look nice against the (awesome) cave walls. Quote
turtleman2020 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) Hooray someone finally did this scene good. The cave walls look really good and I like that you included the "boat" gollum uses. Edited June 25, 2012 by turtleman2020 Quote
soccerkid6 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Good job on the rockwork and the board he paddles around on is a nice touch The little island looks very similar to what I pictured when I read the book Quote
Orange Leader Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Bilbo is looking quite anxious with that Endor Trooper face, now that Gollum is approaching him after not directly guessing his riddle. I think It's a great scene that's true to the book. Quote
Palathadric Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I hadn't imagine Gollum's island being so small. This is quite a nice little MOC though. Quote
Flobnomdob Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Nice rocks here, and I loved that scene in the book. Let's hope the films do it right! This is exactly as I imagined the scene myself. Should I hope or not hope that they make a set of this? Actually, I hope not. Your MOC of it does this justice enough. Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Wow! At first I thought you read my mind! Just as I pictured it, love the texture on the walls. Good show! Quote
jed_barabrian Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Great MOC, but I always pictured the "beach" as being longer. Quote
Jacob Nion Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 Thank you guys! I thought this Vignette wasn't that exciting, but I'm glad to read such positive feedback. LotR and the Hobbit are the big deal for me this year. So to say, I waited since the first film until this year for a Lego Theme. I'll try to make some larger dioramas. Great MOC, but I always pictured the "beach" as being longer. Me too! but then I realised there's not enough place. Quote
K-Nut Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Really nice! The walls look great, and so does Gollum's little rock. Nicely done. Quote
Legopard Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Nice LotR-MOC, Jacob! Lovely rockstructure and nice uses of the new minifigs. But i'm not a big fan of these watertechnique. Quote
HawkLord Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Lego definitely needs to make a set similiar to this one. Great size (sure it might have been a bigger area in the book, but this works really well), nice figures (Bilbo, Gollum, and a Skellie), and a well designed scene. I could see Lego putting this out as a set in the $25 range. Very cool! Quote
Legonardo Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Perfect! just how I pictured it when I read the book! Quote
lego_legis_legere Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 "We only wish To catch a fish, So juicy-sweet !" Very nice M.O.C. ! Great job. Quote

SheepEater Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I agree completely. It wouldn't surprise me to see a set like this in the first Hobbit wave. It would surprise me if it WOULDN'T be a set, since it happens fairly early in the book (so will definitely be in the first movie), and it's one of the most iconic and memorable chapter of the story, if not the most. (Side note: I love the book The Hobbit, but am I the only one who found the "Barrels out of Bond" chapter very boring?) Quote

Captain Settle Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Fantastic MOC. Although the beach is smaller than I imagined in the book, it makes it seem more like an official set. Quote
Cara Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 The little island is just like I imagined. This fits so well and is so iconic, I would think Lego would have to use this for a Hobbit set. Now what I would love to see is Smaug! Nice MOC Quote

Now what I would love to see is Smaug! Nice MOC There's no way Lego will make any set with Smaug until after the 2nd movie is out. We might not even see Smaug in the first movie unless in a flashback, when the dwarves recount how they lost their kingdom. Quote
Ferrik Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 That's a good MOC and it certainly does look like the cave as described in the book. Keep up the great MOCs. Quote
